I used to wake before the sun
but never once saw it rising.
I sleep after the owls wake up
yet the moon keeps hiding from my eyes.
I travelled on roads,
I travelled in the sky,
but I never really looked
outside the window of my life.
I have a husband, kids,
and a whole line of relatives,
but I don’t know why
I never felt loved or cared for.
I have a master’s degree,
kept safely in a locker,
but I never used it—
it just lies there like a forgotten dream.
I have so many clothes,
I wore them all,
but I still don’t know
which one I actually like.
I watch TV every day,
but I never finish a movie
without getting up again—
as if I can’t sit still in my own life.
I have a perfect house,
I clean it every day,
but it never feels like
a place that belongs to me.
I have a healthy body,
everyone says so,
but I feel pain everywhere
as if my bones are tired.
I have a life—
I don’t know why it keeps going,
but still I push through the day,
Without thinking.

First of all, I like the name of the poem. Let’s see if it ties into the actual text itself!
This does feel like it ties the title to the work itself. I also find it curious, that part abt waking before the sun but still never really seeing it. Maybe like, working from inside where you have to arrive way early but don’t have windows to see the outside? And sleeping after the owls wake up means probably that there just isn’t that much time to sleep, that you get back home so late that the day is basically already over.Ohh I like this:
And if you’re at work/busy all the time, no wonder you also don’t have time for family or making connections with them that you end up never “Feeling loved or cared for” ☹
Also interesting to describe a master’s diploma as a forgotten dream but it makes sense. There’s a reason you got that degree in the first place ☹
Oh that is such a relatable line: “as if I can’t sit still in my own life.” I also have to really force myself to get immersed into watching something. The urge to do something, a puzzle, some vacuuming etc while watching something is sooo strong.
Well, the poem certainly awakens feelings. I feel sad now. And like I should be doing something with my life. More reviews probably. Thanks for sharing =D
Thank you so much Tikaya..looking forward to your reviews
Nice poem written by the writer.
"I never felt loved or cared for.
I have a master’s degree,
kept safely in a locker,
but I never used it—"
The poem is so good and realistic, I can almost see the boredom and feel the agony in these lines. I assume the writer loved to study and pursue in their career life but due to some reason they could not. Even after having a lovely family, the writer does not feel loved. The emotions are so clearly depicted in this poem, I loved it.
Although, I think there must be something worth thinking about, something you don't have to do "Without thinking" and something you enjoy thinking about. Just my perspective.
Keep it up.
Waiting for more.
Thank you.
Thank you so much
