A chasm deep and wide has opened between us,
and my heart was left wounded in the breaking.
What once held us together is irrevocably lost.
Still, it meant the world to me.
*
*
Now my mind wanders, and memories slip away like the faint light of distant stars.
One by one, they vanish from the night.
Yet once, those memories pressed close, warm as sunlight on winter skin.
They met my sorrow with a quiet kindness, like rain on thirsty earth.
*
*
Time carries names away, and faces fade into mist.
I may forget every memory, my name and yours,
The places we walked, and the words we spoke in low voices meant only for each other
But there is something time cannot erode.
*
*
I could never forget the love.
That once made its home between us.
Even if every moment dissolves,
Even if every detail slips beyond my grasp, the feeling lingers, quiet and unyielding.
It rests beneath thought, beneath language, beneath the fragile walls of who I am.
*
*
I may let your name drift away, your face dissolve into mist, every word we shared blown away by the wind…
But I will never forget the bond.
And the love that once blossomed between us
And even if I forget who you were,
My heart will always remember that once,
It was held.

Alrighty, let’s find out what was held!
Already, I like the sentiment expressed in the first stanza. That just because something is over, unwilling, it doesn’t mean it didn’t leave any impact.
That said, like if this were prose, I find the passive phrasing here weakens your point?:
I really like these two lines in particular:
It makes me think that what was held was the love itself?
And that where it lies, words cannot reach; the place to ephemeral, too… indescribable!
Those final two lines work so well for this poem! I am stunned!

Hiyaaaaaa
This is nini here for my daily dosage of braincell reducing poetry/prose
So, without any more brain wracking, let's get to this poem's analysation.
I love it when poetry doesn't overcomplicate things and is raw (atleast that is how it feels reading this)
The poet talks about the falling apart between him and his partner, if we look at the first stanza. He feels that he is hurt by it and that their bond has been lost (which relates to the 'chasm' in the first line). However, he still yearns for her love which is why despite everything going wrong, he still held on.
Ahhh loving the metaphors here!
The poet talks about how he is slowly trying to get over it. He describes his memories slipping away and it vanishing night after night. which made me question stuff. I initially thought he was slowly forgetting or trying to forget. It made me think whether it had been a long time since their falling out and this was just him missing her. While this could not have been what was meant by the poet, it was a still a good enough interpretation to add to the list.
Adding on to his feelings in the stanza before, as a reader, you can tell how much he still cherishes her knowing he has to let go but he keeps them close
I must say i loved the contrast here like 'warm as sunlight on winter skin'
I think the 3rd stanza is why i was firm on my interpretation of the previous stanza. Speed running a little here- The poet emphasizes on how time might make him forget her but he would never forget how dearly he loved her.
This was soooo cute. I think, the poet would never repeat the same words to someone else which makes the line...so pretty.
Yea no, I don't think this review does the poem justice.
The 5th stanza goes on with the same yearning feeling seen throughout the poem
My thoughts on this poem? Its sweet and short and has a good flow to it.
I don't have anything to add to this poem, but it was gorgeous.
