I’ll be your shadow
for it’s easier this way.
I’ll never flee from your side
but stand silently by.
And when your demons seep out,
creeping under the crack in the door,
I’ll be right there,
trying to push Them back.
And when They descend on you,
like buzzards to a carcass,
I’ll fend Them off,
wielding my shadowiness like a sword.
But you’ll turn around,
and I’ll turn around with you,
(because I’m your shadow, you see?)
and you’ll never know
who it was who saved you—
You’ll never see me;
you never have.
And when you sleep,
and They whisper nightmares in your ear,
I’ll drag Them away,
cast Them into a far-off country
and mumble lullabies instead.
You’ll awaken with a vague memory
of an airy tune…
But you won’t remember my voice.
You never have.
And I hear you cry.
You can cry all you like,
but I won’t wipe away your tears.
That is something I will never do.
Because you cry for someone.
“Anyone!”
I answer with my silence,
"Here I’ve been all along!"

So, I think the first three paragraphs could all be connected. Because they all star with "And" it, at least for me personally, threw me off and slowed down the poem for me, which I didn't like in this situation. Actually this happens through the whole poem, so it's your decision. but it would help me personally. Take it like a grain of salt.
Mumble? Eww. That doesn't sound right. As a reader I don't enjoy that. A grain of salt.
I finished this and almost said "Aww," because it was amazing. It was like you have a friend with you all along and it can't say "Hi, I am your friend with you all the time." I really really liked this.
Keep it up!
Woah.
I read a theory once about what happens if your soul mate dies before you get a chance to meet them. They would follow you around and protect you. They'd keep you safe from harm and try to be with you until you can finally join them in death. This poem reminds me of this theory as this shadow goes about protecting and loving this person even though they don't see it.
Every part of this poem took my breath away. It almost made me cry. The shadow is a silent hero, and it's so sad that he never gets recognized. This poem is filled with tragedy but there's an uplifting side to it as well. The part where the person is okay, and can continue to go on.
I didn't notice any technical errors. There wasn't any particular rhyme or rhythm but it still flowed decently. The story draws you in enough that you can ignore the lack of rhythm. I think it flows better without it anyways.
All in all I really like this poem. It's so beautiful and deep. I think it's one of the best I've ever read. Keep up the good work.
I read this aloud and it's a really good poem!
I like the theme a lot!
There is one line I would personally alter: "wielding my shadowiness like a sword." I'm sure you know that shadowiness sounds a bit awkward compared to the rest of the poem. Try another word perhaps?
Altogether I really like this poem!!!
