No Traces

In Poetry: 2013

I have only known you for a short season,
and spring is coming,
but you left in the night.

I try to follow but you leave no traces,
no footsteps that I can place my own feet in;
no poems scrawled on a scrap of paper.
Your footsteps follow the snow clouds
that are circling the globe,
so that when spring blossoms come,
both you and they are gone.
Your ballads, so sweet, fly away with that chilly wind
and end up somewhere in an icy sea,
drowning your lovely words into the forgotten Styx.

You are an elusive beast,
a wintry creature,
and only the snow knows your name.

Hey there yet again, fortis! :D
This poem was magical. The title, and the content were both so immersing!
The only line that sounded a bit awkward to me was:
"no footsteps that I can place my own feet in;"
perhaps drop the "that" in it?
My favourite line was probably:
"and only the snow knows your name."
Because it's just so beautiful and it really makes the reader think! :D

Oh my goodness though. Your last lines are so beautiful! They kind of give a little twist to the poem, but they are so memorable! I love it! :D Keep up the good work!

Hello fortis! I love reviewing your works for some reason. Maybe because they are so amazing! :3

Okay. Let's get on with the review:

Aah. This is a lovely poem. <3
I'm in love with this poem and winter's my favorite season. ;3
If I'm right, you're talking about the season winter.

I love the mystery of it. It's brilliant. It's flawless; I haven't seen any mistakes.

My favorite part was,

"You are an elusive beast,
a wintry creature,
and only the snow knows your name."

It leaves a feeling of mystery to the readers and gives a clue about the poem.

Well done! Brilliant job!

Beautiful. The poem is mysterious and well-written. Although, 'ballad' was redundant, and even though it was, it didn't subtract from the beauty of it. The poem is enticing and draws the reader in with your use of vocabulary. The opening stanza was what really piqued my interest. I love how this wonderful poem is about something that seems as simple as winter, as snow. This really intrigues me. I can't offer many words, but it was amazing, and judging by how well this is written, you seem to be quite a writer.
So, I give you two thumbs up and with that, I bid you adieu.

Beautiful as always.
You create an air of mystery and beauty throughout this whole poem. The inclusion of the seasons is really nice. How it goes from spring to winter, like the persona has come full circle.
I don't really have much more to say, except good job!

Ah, this is so very lovely!

I only saw one thing to nitpick:
"Your ballads, so sweet, fly away with that chilly wind"
I feel like "ballads" is redundant here, as it was just used 2 lines previous.

That being said, I adore the use of "ballads" in this stanza:
"I try to follow but you leave no traces,
no footsteps that I can place my own feet in;
no ballads scrawled on a scrap of paper."
It has me mentally picturing you searching for the remainder of a loved one who is no longer around, trying to find comfort in the simplistic things such as old songs being written, or items of clothing being left around. Great imagery.

And then this final stanza:
"You are an elusive beast,
a wintry creature,
and only the snow knows your name. "
I love this one a lot. The adjectives you chose create some very skillful theriomorphism.

Great job, really!
9/10
