The Purple Instructions

In Poetry (2022)

First, find the path. It is searching for someone like you, with its trail of dust motes floating under the moonlight. You will follow this to its opening curtained with dark lichen, and see how the path cuts mountain-deep.

Second, walk the path. Feel the ridges of ancient rock as you trail your hand and collect cool moisture. The smell of lilacs.

No third step is given.

(Somewhere, the red tip of a petal,

flower snout-like

nosing the crisp air,

catches your eye –

turning on the stalk like a neck

grown thick and hardy.

.

It has been growing for years,

waiting in an indigo crag

for you.)

this was a pretty good read. I like how you describe the place as somewhere you could find on earth but describe it in such a fantasy way. I also like how you were given steps on what to do and how to move through out the world, but at the third step its not given. I feel like that symbolizes when you gain your own free will in a video game or like in real life when everyone lets you make your own decisions instead of guiding you all the way. in the end of the poem you mention a flower that looks like it has been growing for a long time and grew quite tall and strong and you feel almost as if it was meant for you like it was growing for you. my interpretation of this is that this is the point of your life when you find what you where/are meant to do like you find your purpose. I kinda feel like this poems are given you steps on how to get through life and find your purpose but at some point in time you have to guide yourself and find your purpose yourself. you have to go out looking for it in the least suspecting places because it can be found anywhere in any form, and you cant wait for it to just show up you have to go at and find it. this was just my interpretation but your poem was very good nonetheless.

Thanks for sharing your interpretation! It's been a while since I wrote this poem so I can't quite remember off the top of my head what I was going for, but I enjoyed reading your thoughts, especially the point about free will :D

Hello, this is Kelisot doing a review for this interesting piece of poetry they've just found that's possibly from the imaginations of a fellow human being. That is if you consider yourself from a mortal race of humanoid entities.

I've found the vagueness and the mysteriousness of these instructions very... amusing. It was quite unexpecting to see the beginning of these instructions not to be in a form of poetry, so I thought that was an interesting spin.

But while reading these instructions, what mostly caught me off guard was this line:

No third step is given.

Eventually, I realized the stanzas below were possibly what this "third step" was about... the lore suddenly was interesting. I am unsure, but the words manage to intrigue me. I was thinking that there might be floral/plant symbolism, as indigo sometimes symbolizes wisdom, but that stuff, I don't have enough knowledge to confirm that as true or false.

Here were some of my favorite lines:

flower snout-like

nosing the crisp air,

catches your eye –

turning on the stalk like a neck

grown thick and hardy.

In conclusion, I found the poem interesting. I have several theories about what exactly the flower may be-- but it surely is an interesting conceptual idea that seems to change when aging. I enjoyed reading this.

Thanks for the review! That's an interesting observation about the third step :D

So,what happens next? I guess that’s left to our imagination.I wonder if the flower has any significance in the story.Does it symbolize greed? Desire? Or perhaps, reality just out of reach,in the beautiful fantasy we live in.Maybe the flower is hope.Maybe it means nothing, absolutely nothing,at all.I hope you have a lovely and amazing day and night.

Or perhaps, reality just out of reach,in the beautiful fantasy we live in.

Care to elaborate on your interpretations? You seem to have gotten a lot out of this small poem, I wonder what words in the poem made you think of this idea in particular. :D

It makes me think of chasing something that isn%u2019t real.

Something you%u2019ve always wanted but will never come true.

Ah, I see. That's interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
