A Verdant Tree

by Liminality

Text:

There is a verdant tree:

it takes root and grows

incessantly.

.

On isles it beckons ships,

follows them to sea

for company.

.

On hills it loves towers,

the grass and small streams,

though melancholy.

.

On flatlands it grows fair –

you could build a swing:

it creaks playfully.

.

There is a verdant tree

they say it grows fruits

of memory.

It's very evocative.A poem has achieved true excellence when the verses, alongside being eloquent, also manages to convey a story. The tree's life, despite the simplicity of Its purpose or perhaps because of It,the poem Is stunningly beautiful. The repetition of 'there Is a verdant tree' Is very clever

As a reader, I found this story to be a beautifully written and evocative depiction of a tree and its relationship with the world around it. The use of simple, yet lyrical language creates a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world. The tree is described as verdant and constantly growing, taking root on different types of land and even following ships to sea for company. Its ability to adapt to its surroundings is a testament to its resilience and strength.

The tree is described as having a special connection to memory, with the suggestion that it bears fruit of memory. This adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the story, as the reader is left to wonder what this means and how the tree is connected to our memories.

The imagery of the tree on hills, towers, and flatlands is also powerful and evocative. The tree is able to thrive in a variety of environments, providing a sense of continuity and connection to the world. Its presence on hills and towers adds a sense of majesty and grandeur, while its presence on flatlands allows for more personal and intimate moments, such as the creation of a swing.

Overall, I found this story to be a delightful and thought-provoking read. Its simple yet poetic language and evocative imagery left a lasting impression on me and made me appreciate the beauty and power of nature. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys lyrical writing and musings on the natural world.

Thanks so much for the review! I'm glad it was thought-provoking - I hadn't meant it to be a super philosophical poem, just maybe with a few speculative hints, but it's nice to know it ended up having that substance. I enjoyed reading your interpretations. The variety of settings the tree can live in was definitely intentional. Thanks again!
