Poems are simple
and easy to rhyme.
You only need paper,
some coffee and time.
You see! I just wrote one
while I sat in my chair.
Now I'm going to get dinner so
see ya! Take care!

InfiniteRectangles, this is a wonderful poem. That said, I would have liked it even more if I was four (I made it rhyme!). It's rather short and simple, but then it's meant to be so. It's ambiguity (is that a word?) proves to be it's greatest strength. I've read the rest of your works and really liked them. Great Job!
P.S. I'm new on YWS, I'd be really grateful if you could check out my poetry. Happy New Year!
Hello there. I am KingQueenKnave, hopefully the most honest reviewer on YWS- without being a smug prat, of course. However, with the risk of sounding like one, I had a couple of problems with this poem.
That being said, it was well written. The title definitely matched the poem itself, which I can only assume was meant as a joke or to read for children. Either way, it was... well, very simple, and that is this poem's strength, which is retained throughout. I like the innocence and naivety in the speaker's voice, in the sense that they feel they can write poetry. Of course, reading some of your other works, I think that you can write it really well- especially the cleverness of the work "Drip, Drop".
However, your poem's strength is its weakness. It is simple. Perhaps, given your other work, too simple. It is so simple that at times it becomes an oversimplification. The universality of your statement is somewhat ignorant of the fact that a lot of poetry isn't actually easy, or at least a good poem isn't easy to write. Then again, you make no claim that your poem is good, and I am glad because then it would be both ignorant and arrogant. I appreciate the humour of your poem, but it's not funny enough to sustain much interest.
In short, a good poem, but an over-simplification of poetry. Rhyming is not the be-all and end-all of the literary style you claim to be easy. Just bare that in mind the next time you assert without substance.
Heya, InfiniteRectangles!
First off, I've gotta say that, as someone who loves writing poetry but experiences constant writer's block because I can rarely think of something good enough, I love how you took it and broke it down. It was entertaining to see someone mock it and remind me how simple it really is (after all, it's all a product of paper, coffee, rhyme and time!)
It was fun to read this short poem with the silliness and well done flow (it's not complicated, but it's enjoyable.) My only issue was the last two lines - it seemed to end rather abruptly, but that's only my view.
Enjoy your days leading up to New Year, and keep it coming!
i wasn't a fan of this.
hey rectangles, i didn't understand the purpose of this poem. there is no evident humor value within it, to be perfectly honest. "hey guys look i can rhyme give me likes" is the message i'm getting out of this. i don't quite think the second line is grammatically correct, but that doesn't matter, because it doesn't show an evident dent in the quality of the poem. overall, you should just actually make a more real poem.
thanks.
... o.o
If you really want to take it that far... you could find it as an example of satire which mocks how serious poets take poems when really poems can be as simple as the one above.
Thank you for the review, but I think you missed the point. It's not supposed to be a deep, profound poem with hidden meanings and whatnot. It's just a simple poem that's pleasant to read. It doesn't have to have an underlying meaning. It's just a lighthearted thing about how sometimes writing a poem can be as simple as just sitting down with a pen and paper and writing whatever comes to mind. Not every poem has to be deep, heart-wrenching, or thought provoking. It's not a serious poem, so I don't think it should be reviewed as one. Yes, I could make a "more real" poem, with a plot and metaphors and such, but that's not what this poem is about. Also, any poem is a "real" poem, whether it's any good or not so I don't think that was the best word to use.
Anyway, rant over. Have a wonderful day/night!
but i didnt find this pleasant.
Well, no offense, but that seems like more of a you problem than a me problem. Everyone else who has read it has found it nice and sweet. If you don't see it that way, maybe you either aren't reading it right or just don't know how to enjoy a simple poem. I am aware that my poetry could use improvement, I'm definitely not saying I'm perfect, but this poem was supposed to be silly and sweet, and it seems that you're the only one who didn't find it so.
"only one"
yes, because everybody who read this poem left a comment. its a simple poem, that's the problem. don't hate the player, hate the game.
Hullo, love! This is the sweetest little poem I have ever read!!! It takes a clever mind and an open heart to write poetry like this. I have absolutely no critique save the capitalization problem at the beginning of the last line. Overall, a wonderful poem and a wonderful-ler writer behind it! Have a good day and a Merry Christmas!!_
Hey there Infinite Rectangles. Just lizzy stopping by for a quick review. I liked your poem but I save praise for the end, so let the reviewing begin.
Length: This element is not a one size fits all. A problem I come across quite a bit is the main idea and support in short poems. If the story is too short the point is not properly supported and if it's too long it will become tiring. I think you have a good length overall but I have a few issues with the number and length of lines.
After "some coffee" I think there should be another pause. Simple enough fix, all you need is another comma.
I think "You see" and "I just..." need split into two lines. It may be correct the way you have it just when I read it, it doesn't sound right.
Grammar: I didn't see any grammar or spelling errors, except for the comma I pointed out in the last section.
Content: Overall I liked your poem. Simple, short, and straight to the point.
Well that's all I have. Welcome to YWS. Hope you had a happy holiday.
