I wanted a puppy,
you gave me a dog.
If I asked for a tadpole
would you give me a frog?
You gave me a tree
when I asked for a seed.
Close enough,
but was there a need?
I wanted an ally,
you became my friend.
Just make sure
it's not pretend.
I wished for happiness,
you gave me a ring.
But right after that,
you gave me everything.
The last thing I want
is a promise from you.
The vow was made
when you said "I do."

This poem really escalated cutely. I like how you have the speaker of the poem cautious sand unsure about what they are getting into when this person gives them passed what they expected and does it so consistently.
Overall, I don't think there is much that this poem could improve on. Happiness is happiness not hapiness, but there's not much else.
The poem lacks a little bit of finesse and surprise to it. After the pattern of getting more than expected is applied, it is pretty predictable and I could see where it was going before it got there. I'm not sure there is a way to change that, and I'm not sure if you should. Part of what makes this poem pretty is that it does allow us to predict what the speaker will ask and what the speaker will receive in return. I almost feel like it should be on a halmark card for a good wedding vow thing.
So, this narrator person sounds very well, spoiled? I was thinking at first that this was a little girl narrating this poem, but toward the end it felt more like it was a girlfriend being loved by her boyfriend. But what she really wanted was to be happy with him(or her (don't judge people)). I didn't really get the stanza that said, "You gave me a tree when I asked for a seed.
Close enough, but was there a need?" Like, it kind of shows that the person they are talking about is over doing it. idk, just my thoughts.
All and all thought this poem was very cute/sweet/just plain heart warming.
I really like the beginning, but towards the end the rhythm doesn't work anymore. I really like the content, though. Good Job. But overall, it's not bad, and don't forget: don't ever stop writing!
Wow, everybody is dark today ^^;
I like it... sort of =D
