When we've finished eating dinner,
When the family's all wound down,
I sit at my piano
And fill the house with sound.
I perch on the uncomfortable bench
And coax from all the whiteness
A tune not unlike a piece of art
To vanquish any silence.
It may be quick and major,
The notes flying from my fingers,
Or it may be something else entirely,
A haunting tune that lingers.
I enjoy the time after dinner a lot,
Sometimes it's the pinnacle of my day,
When I can sit at my piano
And play the world away.

Aaaaaack! It is exceedingly easy for me to say that I am just overjoyed that I found you in the green room, because with every poem I read, the better my day gets!
You have a true gift with rhyme and structure, you know that right? This poem was just as smooth as could be and I honestly feel like I've just taken a hot shower after reading it xD
"It may be quick and major,
The notes flying from my fingers,
Or it may be something else entirely,
A haunting tune that lingers." --- This stanza in particular poked out at me for the imagery that you used, with the "notes flying from my fingers" putting a fast paced piano tune in my head, or the "haunting tune that lingers," which of course made me think of Danse Macabre, Camille Saint-Saëns, 1874.
All that aside, the backstory that this poem conveys is really very appealing as well. Someone being able to escape through music at the end of the day, any day, and chase away any bad feelings with the notes. I just love it!
Hello, Ruby here for a review!

Music and poetry both have a special place in my heart, so you've really hooked me with this one. I'm kind of in love with this poem, it actually sounds like the words to a beautiful song; partly due to the lilting of the flow you've created that causes each line to blend into the next and makes each whole stanza roll off the tongue. The rhyme scheme here adds to that as well because while it may be simple, the words you've chosen all fit in with each line even if they aren't perfect rhymes.
I enjoyed the simplicity of the image you created. A very simple and common scene of someone enjoying their hobby is written to show how special every moment is when you are doing something that you love. Also, like I said, music is something that I dedicate time to so personally I connected to this a lot.
Overall such a beautiful poem and I can't wait to read more from you
Hello herbgirl~
This is MergSword here with a review!
Grammar Issues and Other Errors
A frequent error throughout the poem is that some lines have commas, while others don't. A comma is meant to be used throughout the poem to separate lines, otherwise it might as well be just a large line. I don't mean to be the grammar police, but please choose to keep add all commas or remove all commas.
The Pros of this Poem
I loved the idea and concept of the poem. Music poems are great, in my opinion, so this poem was a must read for me. I also love the way the poem was a girl who plays the piano in order to express herself both musically and creatively.
The Cons of this Poem
I didn't quite find cons, I guess I really liked the poem that much. I will admit that some words used in the poem were very creative, while others were a bit lousy. Such as the words "a lot" in the last stanza. You should use a stronger word, with the same meaning.
My Overall Opinion
I loved this poem very much. Music poems have a soft spot and a special place in my heart, and it was a pleasure to read and review this work.
~Keep on Writing
Hello again! Just thought I'd check out some more of your work, and since I play piano, this title intrigued me.
Okay, so let's get to the review!
I really liked this! You're a really great poet and the poems I have read of yours so far are very light-hearted and sweet! I love how you describe the feeling of playing piano and how exciting it is when you finally get to play. However, I feel you could have been a bit more descriptive. Make your reader's fingers itch for the cool touch of piano keys. One of the most important things to remember when writing is make your reader feel "in the moment." While there were a few instances where I felt this, such as in the third stanza, this is definitely an area you can improve in. For example:
"I enjoy the time after dinner a lot,
Sometimes it's the pinnacle of my day,
When I can sit at my piano
And play the world away."
One thing you should probably do is avoid "a lot". It's neither descriptive nor very poetic. Try to keep in mind the old phrase "show don't tell". It may be cliche, but it is definitely something all writers should consider. So try rephrasing your stanzas in a way that makes them more descriptive.
"Play the world away" is a bit of a cliche. It's used in so many poems about music. Try something a little more creative, like "When I sit at my piano/ the world just melts away" or something along the lines of that.
"When we've finished eating dinner,
When the family's all wound down,
I sit at my piano
And fill the house with sound."
The beginning and ending of poems are quite possibly the most important parts. You want the start of your poem to be powerful and intriguing. While this is a pleasant little beginning, there's not much that's intriguing about it. "I sit at my piano/ and fill the house with sound" That could be so much more descriptive. Talk about how it fills the house. Make your reader feel like they are in the room. You could talk about how the sounds carries. Is it light? Does it float along in the air in a stream of merriment? Is it calm and soothing? Is it dark and heavy? Specify what type of sound it is and the readers can get a better feel for it.
Overall this is a lovely poem, but I feel that it would be so much more powerful if you used the element of imagery to your best advantages. That's really the only recurring issue I'm seeing. Imagery can be a difficult thing to master, but with some practice, it can transform your piece into a work of art!
That's all I have for you. Keep writing and have a wonderful day/ night! ^-^
