held breaths
nervous laughter
i know i dont need to
baggy clothes
concealer
i know i shouldn't
flitting eyes
face masks
i know its okay
large jackets
the truth doesnt help
hunched shoulders
knowing it isnt enough
false smiles
i hate myself

This poem is short, but still really good. The lack of punctuation or capitalization works so well in this poem. You don't get much insight as to who exactly the narrator is, but they're expressing insecurities and self-hatred, which most people can relate to on some level. The vagueness makes the poem much more relatable and mysterious. The narrator also mentions large jackets, baggy clothes, fake smiles and concealer, which can be taken as them trying to hide or cover up themselves for other people.
Overall, the poem is really well written, relatable, and enjoyable to read.
Hi hi!
Oh my goodness, this is beautiful! It's short and succinct, but it's just enough! Insecurity is a normal part of life, but it sucks... :/ I think that writing is the best way to clear out negative energy though! This feels very vent-y and personal, but it's so relatable! That's hard to manage with shorter poetry!
The 'girlhood' imagery is striking! I would've never seen face masks or concealer in a poetic way, but now it makes so much sense! It's allegorical to hiding away your true self, which matches up with the poem hahah. I agree with the other reviewer mentioning the columns and its effects, too. One side is the real side, the other side is the one through the lens of the insecurity. That's creative!
Though, the format is a little messy for me! I don't know if it's something on my side, but it doesn't look very clean. Maybe that's intentional though! :>
This made me feel so many things! It's like both columns can be read as their own poems! It's hard to struggle with your own body, but I think it's something we all come to terms with eventually. I can tell that you have a wonderful soul though, which is the most important thing! <3 <3 I loved this so much!

Thanks for the review!
Hey friend, I am back with another review for one of your lovely poems! This one really stood out to me because of its unique, formatting and title. Let’s not waste any time and let’s jump right into the review:
so in this poem, it seems like we have two separate columns. I assume that one of them represents an mirror and one of them represents internal thoughts. I assume that the column on the right represents the mirror, because it details, a lot of physical descriptions, such as clothing that you were wearing or how you look. The column on the left includes descriptions of internal thoughts about yourself, most of which seem to be pretty negative or filled with insecurities. This is probably relating back to the title of the poem and the theme, not liking mirrors.
I found this to be so unique! I love the spiral that we can see in your own mind eventually ending up at the statement “I hate myself“. overall, I think you did a wonderful job at using simple sentences to express relatable feelings that a lot of us have felt before. Although I can’t relate to every single insecurity you have in this piece, I definitely do feel the relatability of a lot of it. Fantastic work on these short descriptions, but powerful impact. I look forward to reading even more of your poetry in the future. Have a fantastic day!
You friend,
Ellie
