Dear Life

Dear Life

For a minute could you stop?

So I can take a look around,

And realize all the beauty,

Relic in the calm,

Could you please just click pause?

For when you click play,

Everything goes to fast,

And I’m thrown on to my knees,

Trying to catch my breath.

It was only yesterday when I was happy,

But fast forward to today,

And I sit here wishing it would all just go away.

Life you have hurt me ,

More than you could know,

You couldn’t sustain my pain,

You wouldn’t be able to take my blows.

I’m hurting,

And I’m broken,

And all you do is fast forward,

Till I’m slowly gone away,

Every part of me turned to dust,

The life I once had nothing but a memory,

One that went far to fast,

For me to ever click record.

Life, is this really what I deserve?

This poem was great! I loved it. I liked how well you portrayed the character's wanting for a new life. I did catch a couple of mistakes here and there, most of them grammar.

In the 7th line, you write "Everything goes to fast". The "to" should have two o's, as in "too". The word "to" is a preposition, which indicates a form of motion, such as "I am going to the store."

In the 13th line, you write "Life you have hurt me ," You (probably by accident), put a space in between "me" and the comma.

In the 22nd line, you write "The life that I once had nothing but a memory," I believe you forgot to put the word "is" after has.

That's it for my review! Besides the mistakes I noticed, everything was wonderful! Keep on writing, and I look forward to reading more of your poems! Merry (late) Christmas and Happy (early) New Year!

I love the usage of rhetorical questions to open and close the poem. It engages the reader from the beginning and feels like a strong way to force the reader's attention towards the introspection that the speaker is so desperately craving for themselves. I'm also always a fan of metaphors and I enjoyed the use of phrases like "fast forward", "record", "pause", etc. Lovely poem!

Hello again, @brookeallo!

I realized after I reviewed you writing that I forgot to mention something: stanzas.

To state the obvious, you did not separate your poem into stanzas. In my opinion, it makes the poem look neater and more organized.

Anyway, that's all I would like to say. I'm sorry that I did not mention this in the first review.
Well, keep writing!

Thankyou! Some of my poems I do seperate into stanzas but others I just don't becuase I feel like it kinda stayed on the same meaning throughout the whole poem so I didn't need to switch over to a new idea.

Ok. Thank you for the explanation. Merry Christmas!

@brookeallo,

Wow, this is amazing! By far, one of my favorite poems I have read, like, ever. If this is what you're going through right now, I am very sorry, as I am as well, which is most likely one of the reasons why this literary piece speaks to me so much. Anyway, let us get strait into the review, shall we?

1) Grammar
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
While reading, I did notice a few grammar mistakes that you may have missed. Well, if you did miss them, that's why I'm here; to help you improve!
First of all, in the first line ("For a minute can you just stop?"), I believe that a comma after the word "minute" would be very useful to the tone of the line, don't you think?
Another thing that I noticed was that in the seventh line ("Everything goes to fast") the "to" should be "too" as in "too much". This is a very familiar mistake, that a lot of people make, so do not fret.
In the line after that, I did notice that the words "on to" should be one, as in "into".
In the twelfth line, maybe you can change the word "And" to "Where"? I'm not sure, it's just a suggestion.
In the line after that, I noticed that there is a space before the comma. Again, this is a very common mistake.
In the twenty-second line, you may have missed a word after "had", which could have been "is".
I am pretty sure that is it for grammar mistakes. How about we move onto the good parts of your poem?

2) The Metaphor
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
I absolutely love how the entire poem revolves around the metaphor of the pause, rewind, fast forward, (like a video/movie) relating to life. It's such a great connection!
This metaphor wraps this entire poem together is a very good way. It, somehow, makes the reader shot the poem more! Keep this up. This will get you far.

Overall, this is an amazing poem. Honestly. Keep this up! I can't wait to read more of your work! I really hope I was not too harsh with this review.
Merry Christmas and keep writing! ;)
