Musing

My Muse is a chameleon:
a mermaid, a scornful queen,
a fantasy whisked away
by the winds of this harsh clime.

My Muse brings me
ecstasy diluted with pride
and submerges me in sorrow,
compelling me to wrench my heart out.

My Muse plays dress-up.
A mirage of a maiden of Eden,
then the fiery damsel of Hell.
A mousy girl sitting in the front of the bus.
My Muse is unreliable miscreant.
I get her answering machine when
I try to reach her at home.
She lures me into the depths of the Underworld,
where I spot her trading secrets with Hades
and am forced to drag her home by her ponytail.

My Muse wanders
through my cavernous imagination
sequestering herself when I need her the most,
reappearing to lull me asleep at night.

Yeah, I would have to be given at least two years of teaching just to get what a muse is. Jk. Two weeks at least. Okay no more joking. Your previous reviewer has basically took all the words from my mouth but I'm going to try here. I thought that you got your message out there but somehow I just couldn't grasp an emotion out of it. I got what you were saying but I didn't get something out of it. My only piece of advice would be to make your words pop so for a person who doesn't even know what a muse is, they would instantly get it. Good luck and keep writing.

What is a muse? To be absorbed in thought or to say to oneself in a thoughtful manner.
O.k. I can review now.
Muse #1

My Muse is a chameleon:
a mermaid, a scornful queen,
a fantasy whisked away
by the winds of this harsh clime.

Love how you used animals and the ever-changing things in life.
Muse #2
My Muse brings me
ecstasy diluted with pride
and submerges me in sorrow,
compelling me to wrench my heart out.
Interesting yet informing me where your head is right now.

Muse #3
My Muse plays dress-up.
A mirage of a maiden of Eden,
then the fiery damsel of Hell.
A mousy girl sitting in the front of the bus.
Best one of them, yet. Love the multi-personalities.

Muse #4
My Muse wanders
through my cavernous imagination
sequestering herself when I need her the most,
reappearing to lull me asleep at night.

Yeah, this is true of me too.

It doesn’t smell old, it just smells like a bad idea.
