With two golden-flecked eyes, the wolf waits,
A dark grey scar on the forest floor.
It rests among the still crimson leaves of late fall
And gazes up at a starlit sky with everlasting peace and nobility.
The wolf’s darkened, smooth pelt glistens with majesty
As it throws back its muzzle and howls in hope that the moon will reply.
It stays ever silent, a ghost haunting the Earth’s darkest nights.
A wolf hunts selflessly. Each life form is another piece of the pack,
A willing yet ruthless hunter, as it springs through the undergrowth
As if it were running from an army, aware of every movement and heartbeat.
A wolf is not an animal. It is not a creature.
It is not a beast conjured up to scare youngsters.
It is a majestic work of art,
A complex yet beautiful gift of creation.
I once knew a human who was a wolf.
Ever cautious, waiting for the right prey to befriend.
I ran across her hunt, and to my dismay, found her forever bloodstained.
I took her in, fed her with love and nourished her with kindness,
But a wolf cannot shed its skin.
Some scars take five years to heal.
Some take only three months.
But you can’t expect no scarring when you care for a carnivore.
You let your guard down, and you are bitten.
Based on the novel ‘Shiver’ by Maggie Steifvater.

Hey! I'm here for a review!
I haven't read Shiver, the novel I mean. But I kind of get an idea of what it's about. That's nice. You were able to give me an insight to what it's like. I commend you for that.
The dark aura pervades to my senses, the way you described it.
By the way, this line: "You let you guard down,"
I think that's a typo. would want to fix that.
Well that's it I guess.
I shivered completely throughout this whole poem, and I felt as if I was a wolf, hunting down prey, and I can see the blood at my paws. I've seen poems where people are gentle animals, but never have I seen an animal poem using a wolf. It's good to have a change once in a while.
If there's anything I can tell you, it's that you have to write out the numbers unless it's a year. What I mean is "5" is five, and "3" is three.
Otherwise, just keep up the good work.
