A/N: This is a new style I thought I'd try. I'm not too sure that I like it. :p
Have you heard the story of the world's most unlikely romance? At the center of the plot is Dorothy, a chummy girl with the rosiest cheeks you'll ever see. She'd long been in love with a tall, dark-haired Prince Charming, though he was anything but. Five years they'd been courting (not officially but everyone knew it) and never would he propose.
Then one day he told poor Dorothy that he had to go overseas on business. Devoted little angel she was, Dorothy didn't say a word against him even though he'd been gone five months without a single letter! She eventually started to wear though, any woman with a brain would, and after a year she'd almost lost hope that he would ever return to her. She began to break apart, everyone could tell, though nothing could be done for her.
A letter did arrive though, no less than thirteen months since the man's departure! You can imagine how delighted Dorothy was. He claimed to have been in an accident, lost his memory, and was now recovering in a hospital (which turned out to be only one town away when she looked at the return address). Dorothy would have upped and gone to the hospital straight away had Prince Charming not said the place was infected with numerous diseases and he couldn't stand the thought of her risking herself.
Their exchange carried on for quite a while; beautiful love letters, so wonderfully written that Dorothy couldn't be apart from the man any longer. She went to the hospital, and you wouldn't believe it, she had to be dragged away kicking and screaming. Her Prince Charming wasn't there, and there never had been a patient with his name!
Dorothy locked herself away after that, folks didn't see her for weeks. No doubt she felt cheated for being lied to all that time, and confused out of her mind, I reckon. The most shocking part of this whole affair occurred when the girl heard a knock at the door and opened to find Prince Charming standing right in front of her with a bouquet of roses! It wasn't him of course, it was the man's brother (who she'd forgotten even existed).
Shocked as poor Dorothy was, it would have been impolite to leave him outside, so the brother waltzed in and told her the most ridiculous of ridiculous stories, but every word was true. Prince Charming had long ago been arrested for murder. That's right, murder! The business trip had been nothing but a killing spree. It was all kept hushed up though, and thank goodness because the brother couldn't stand Dorothy's reputation being ruined. The brother loved her, you see, and had always been tremendously jealous of his sibling.
To save her fragile feelings, he posed as Prince Charming and wrote those letters, though every word came from his own romantic heart. The brother was a postman, you see, that's how he got the letters before they arrived at the hospital, and his plan worked well. But then he heard about Dorothy's disastrous visit, and he didn't know what to do! Of course, the only thing he could do was come clean, and that's the best decision he ever made, I reckon.
Those poetical letters had touched young Dorothy's heart more than anything Prince Charming had ever said, and she fell in love with the brother right then and there. They were engaged a short five days after that meeting, already knowing each other well thanks to those letters. I've been told that they never quarrelled once in their marriage, not once, and lived a real fairytale of a life till the moment they died.

Hey Dracula! HRISSY here with a short review!

I just loved this! I think that you rocked this new style of writing! It seems like it would be very hard to do because if I ever tried to do this-I know I would slip up and have to do A LOT of editing! I really just loved this story! I love how you said how she felt, and how this story went.
I think it really took a weird turn-but for the goodness the great ending. The sad part is that in real life there are 'Dorthy's in the world, and it can lead to bad endings. I really love how this did end in a great way.
There is just really nothing to fix from what I saw. I thought that this was beautiful, and flawless. Great job Dracula!
PLEASE keep writing! <3
Chrissy
Thanks!
This is a beautifully written piece. Elegantly put together, ending fantastically.
The story in the beginning I didn't know what was to come of it.
One part; "Devoted little angel she was, Dorothy didn't say a word against him even though he'd been gone five months without a single letter!" Comes along very suddenly, so I'd recommend lengthening it.
Something along the lines of "Prince charming was had been gone now for a whole 5 months, being the devoted little angel she was, Dorothy didn't say a word against him even though he hadn't sent a single letter!"
Thirteen months is a very long time, though I feel that there wasn't enough background, you could possibly fill in the time with saying how she deteriorated? Such as losing friends, family, job/study etc.
The end became as a large surprise, though pleasant I feel it was missing something.
I see the engagement took nearly no time, that can be fine, but the thing I think needs improvement would be her finding out. Surely after not seeing him for 13+ months, and exchanging letters of love, she wouldn't be so forgiving to find out what had really happened. You could possibly add some anger, grief perhaps, or explain she had no feeling for the physical him, but the side of him on paper, which is why she would fall instantly in love at finding out.
Though, again, I really love this piece, it is a pleasant read, different to many books these days. I very much enjoyed it and I would love to read more, if given the chance.
Thank you.
PS. One more thing, did you base the characters on anyone?
Thanks for the review! Nope, I didn't. Do they remind you of someone?
@Dracula No, but the way you formed the characters seems like you had someone to base them off, you write very well.
