In a seaside town called “Moon’s Beach”, named after how the moon reflected on the water in a way that made it look like the moon was a part of the water, the royal Bamford family visited for their yearly summer vacation.
The family consisted of Queen Arcana, King Gervase, and their ten year old son, Prince Rhian. Though they were royalty and had many servants working for them, there weren’t many kids who were Rhian’s age to hang out with and life at the palace did grow to be a tad boring.
That was why, one early summer morning at Moon’s Beach, Rhian decided to take a walk at town, just to see what he could find, to learn about his family summer vacation destination in greater detail. True, the summer palace at Moon’s Beach, like their actual palace, wasn’t exactly a place that anyone could sneak out of, but Rhian knew the secret pathways of both palaces, the ones soldiers used and so, since there was nobody in the secret pathways so early, he decided to take them.
As Rhian walked throughout the cobblestone streets, he smiled a little to himself about how easily he was able to sneak out, to walk amongst a town of quaint little shops that had quaint little flowers in quaint little pots, under a pink-orange streaked sky, the cool breeze wafting his black hair, how beautiful and still everything was, how-
“I see your eyes for the first time
Your eyes shine brighter than any light
You are the picture of every dream
Mind if I take your hand?
I hope that you understand
I’ll love you more than anyone can imagine
My name is Isadora and I’m a witch
I hope that you don’t mind this”
Rhian turned around, surprised that there was somebody else around, but even more so that they were singing in a way that didn’t seem human, that didn’t seem possible.
The person who had sung to him was none other than a girl around his age, with curly blond hair and green eyes, a pink bow perched on her head and wearing a matching pink dress. Her black sandal-heeled shoes almost looked like real high heels and those green eyes were boring right into him…glittering more so than he had ever seen from the moon reflecting on the water…she kept on smiling…smiling…smiling at him…
What does she want? Did she follow me? Why was she singing to me? This girl, Isadora, did she say that she had a crush on me? I only just met her, but she’s really pretty.
Before Rhian could voice any thoughts of his that may have surfaced in his mind, however, he felt his body molding into itself…the world growing much bigger…and his vision looked more circular…and…lungs hurt so much…he could hardly breathe…
Isadora glared at something in the distance and then she said in a voice much more venomous and snake-like than the one she used to sing to Rhian:
“Elvira? Why are you here?”
Her words sounded faraway, detached. Rhian still couldn’t speak and was gasping for air, but he could see a girl who looked identical to Isadora, who dressed like Isadora, the only difference being that her bow and dress was a muted purple, took one step forward.
“I woke up from a bad dream and looked for you, but you weren’t around. I went to the beach but I didn’t see you. Now I’m here and…why are you talking to Prince Rhian? Why do you care so much about him?” Elvira asked, her voice just as venomous as Isadora’s, but on the verge of tears.
What’s going on? Are they twin sisters or something? What is all of this? Why am I in the middle of this? Why can’t I speak?
“Because he’s the Prince of my dreams and you turned him into a fish! Turn him back! TURN HIM BACK NOW!” Isadora yelled, her voice cracking a bit with her screech.
So that’s what happened to me. I’ve turned into a fish. I guess both of the sisters are witches, but…I really hope that I get turned back. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to breathe and I don’t want to be a fish forever!
“You do it! You’re a witch too.” Elvira snapped in annoyance.
They couldn’t argue too long, because Rhian was still taking gasps of air, just barely holding onto life. He could feel his heart pounding rapidly inside of him, so fast that he was certain it’d slow down soon and…and…
Isadora took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She stayed that way for a moment and then she opened them, her green eyes all teary and said in a quivering voice:
“I can’t do it.”
Rhian felt a cold chill creep down his spine. Was she really trying to save him? Could Isadora not turn him back into a human? Was there no hope for him? Was-
He watched Elvira do the exact same thing, except he could feel himself growing taller, his vision was beginning to correct itself and he could feel his mouth starting to lose its heaviness and begin to move.
Once Rhian became human again, he wasted no time and ran back to the palace, vowing to himself to never sneak out again, lest he run into the witch sisters and even worse, Elvira all by herself.
He was just glad to be back to normal again.
…………………………………………………………
Luckily, it was still early enough for Rhian to go through the secret hallways without any soldiers around and so, he was able to go back to his room and get back into his pajamas, as though he had never left.
Turning into a fish briefly haunted his mind for years, the memory of taking in gulps of air flashing in his nightmares, the distorted, faraway voices circulating his mind, but…
He also remembered Isadora’s glittering eyes, her sweet smile, how she tried to save him. Isadora wasn’t like Elvira, that was for sure, but…but what was she like? Rhian didn’t know and just like turning into a fish, meeting Isadora didn’t leave his mind.
She didn’t haunt him though. She was like a dream that left the soft petals of flowers in his lungs, that pushed down all the constricting fear, that even turned the memory of becoming a fish into nothing more than a hazy nightmare. Her face was always on his mind, questions of who she was never truly leaving him behind, until, one day, at sixteen years old, in yet another summer at Moon’s Beach, he saw a girl around his age who looked just like her, who just had to be her from the light in her eyes and so, he called out to her:
“Isadora! Wondrous witch! I remember you, from when we were young children. Come now, let us be together, oh sweet one!”
For a moment, he panicked, thinking that maybe he was calling out to the wrong girl, that he truly would never see Isadora ever again, but then, she ran up to him, giddily talking about how glad she was to be reunited with him in her soft, sing-song voice, with no traces of malice in her tone.
…………………………………………………………
For months, there was a period of time where Rhian and Isadora would meet at the beach of the town every night, sharing their own life stories, laughing with each other, looking into each other’s eyes, kissing one another. They were dating each other, that much was clear. Isadora often spoke in songs and made the water twist and turn at her own will, which was something that Rhian found fascinating, something that he could watch for hours and hours…
When she didn’t show up at the beach anymore, he didn’t question it. If she needed time off, then he’d let her have it. He may have been a Prince, but he wasn’t a monster. Life with her was more fun than anything in royalty and when she did come up to him in the street and asked if he wanted to meet during the day instead of night, of course he said yes! Anything to see her sparkling green eyes and gentle smile again!
They met up at the beach for a while, the summer almost trickling to an end. He wanted to spend his last moments at Moon’s Beach that year with Isadora, holding her hand by the sand and promising that somehow, he’d find a way to be with her forever, that he wouldn’t fall for any old Princess, that only she was suitable for him, so when she asked to meet him for one night at the beach, he said with a smile:
“Yes, yes, I’d love to!”
Unlike all the other nights where they met at the beach, they weren’t wearing pajamas. Isadora was in her finest dress and jewelry for a commoner and Rhian was dressed in his most extravagant outfit, something that would surely make her heart dazzle more than it did before.
It was just the two of them and the moon reflecting on the water, their love like blood and bones that brought a body together, they were like a working body together, they were each other’s heart and soul, and all Rhian had to do at the beach was lean forward and kiss Isadora…
One hand grabbed the back of Rhian’s head, another grabbed the back of Isadora’s head. He could see the sand on the ground trickling down like a waterfall, he could feel himself being pulled, he could hear Isadora screaming for somebody to stop, but he couldn’t look up. He couldn’t see who was pulling them. Was it Elvira? He hadn’t seen her in such a long time, but what if she came back? What if she was real and not a nightmare? What if-
He felt the hand push his head face down in the water and he heard Isadora’s screams no more.
He had no way of knowing if it was Elvira or not, because he couldn’t move his head up and he could feel his heart start to rapidly beat just like in the nightmare, except water was rushing into his ears and lungs, suffocating him, drowning him…
Just like the nightmare, Isadora wouldn’t be able to save him.

Woww..just wow. "Rhian's Story– Siren's Desire" completely pulled me in. I loved how the story opens with Moon's Beach, the way the moon reflects on the water is such a dreamy, almost magical start. You instantly feel like you're right there with Rhian, walking down those quiet cobblestone streets.
I really liked how the sirens, Isadora and Elvira, were portrayed. They weren't your typical mermaid-ish sirens; they were kids with magic, with personalities that are equal parts sweet and terrifying. The part where Rhian gets turned into a fish? Absolutely terrifying...I could literally feel his panic and helplessness...And yet, the story doesn't just scare you, it makes you care about the characters too, especially Isadora. Her glittering eyes and the way she tried to save him really stayed with me.
The pacing is mostly great, but the jump from Rhian as a kid to sixteen feels a little sudden. I would've loved a tiny glimpse of those in-between years, just to feel the memory of Isadora shaping him. Also, some of the super long sentences during the scary/fish transformation parts could be broken up, it would make the panic hit even harder.
That ending...man, I did not see it coming. Just when you think they might have a happy ending, BAM– the story circles back to danger, and it's haunting. I actually got goosebumps...
Overall, this story is dark, dreamy, romantic, and a little scary, like a perfect fairytale that doesn't sugarcoat anything...I can't stop thinking about that line–
>"She was like a dream that left the soft petals of flowers in his lungs."
Pure poetry....It's the kind of story that sticks with you long after you've finished reading.
I%u2019m glad you enjoyed this!
Also, Isadora and Elvira are witches, but the person who drowned them gets turned into a siren by Elvira. You can read more under my folder %u201CSiren%u2019s Desire%u201D.

Hello! Ley here for a review
Today, I will be using my Summer Themed Review Template! I hope you find this review helpful, let's get into it!
A Warm Welcome
Here you go, capturing me again with these awesome themes XD I love sirens and have been obsessed with them since I was a child, so I immediately clicked on this. I should've known this story wasn't going to end the way I'd hoped! (Ley, you should know this by now! *smh*) Let's get into the real good stuff -- what I loved, and some suggestions!
Sunny Moments
Love your version of a siren! In my eyes, Sirens weren't like mermaids that could shapeshift into humans (maybe they can? >.> could be wrong here), but this version works wonders and is much creepier than the standard siren I was thinking of.
This is awesome because it shows a lot more about Rhian's personality and underlying morals and beliefs. It really sucks that he had to be turned into something without any say in it!
Again, an awesome plot twist here! For a second, I really thought it was Isadora and they were going to have a happy ending
Heat and Haze
I would suggest extending the pace a bit and easing into the "shock-factor" to make the plot-twist blend nicely with the beach scene, but that's just my opinion! This is great the way it is.
Overall Vibes
Overall, this story had so many ups and downs, and had me fooled for a second there! I don't know why I thought this would really end with both parties satisfied!
