Survive the Night: the First Quarter Quell

On the twenty-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that their children were dying because of their choice to initiate violence, each district will hold an election and vote on the tributes who will represent it.

Happy Hunger Games. And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Prologue:

The air is cold. I take small, cautious steps. My heart is pounding. Fast. A false step means getting blown sky high. It was sickening watching the boy before me get blown to bits. I don’t want to see that ever again. I don’t want to see anyone else die.

I just want to go home.

A twig snaps behind me. I whirl around, dagger tight in my grip. Lucky I have my weapon ready. An arrow cuts through the air, heading straight at my face. I deflect it with my blade and it lands on the ground at my feet. Too late, I realize it might hit a mine. But no explosion comes. I breathe a sigh of relief.

“Why are you so relieved, Eight,” the girl who shot the arrow snarls. “I’m still going to kill you. You’ve had this coming from the beginning. And you know it.” I remember her from training. She’s from District Two. A Career. I can see why her district chose her. She was menacing during training and the interviews, but she’s even more menacing in this setting.

I’m terrified.

She takes another step forward and I realize she’s run out of room. Her next step will land on a mine and we’ll both be blown to pieces. I need to find a way to stop her advance.

“Wait!” But it’s too late. Her foot comes down on the ground and everything goes black.

Good job on details, at first when you had the girl with arrows I was thinking, "She's going to have Katniss in the story?" But then it turned out that you know, she's from district two.

When you commented on my prologue, you left a list of what a prologue should contain:

1: Setting/time
2:Main/minor character
3:Cliffhanger

Check, check and check!
Can't wait to see more! (I mean read more)
