Text Version:
Imagine a place where the sky is framed by towering skyscrapers,
reaching up like the stars we see on stages.
The streets move like rivers, never still, a constant rush of people.
The lights never go out here—
they burn through the night, neon signs flickering like electric stars.
Sidewalks glisten and sparkle after it rains, and
yellow cabs weave through traffic.
There’s a rhythm to it all, a beat you can’t ignore,
each block has its own soul, from the brownstones of Brooklyn,
where the trees line the streets, to the glass towers of midtown,
and the bustling crowds of Broadway.
I want to pack my bags, say goodbye to the town I call home.
I’ll move to the city where the lights never go out,
where I can lose myself in the noise, in the rush.
And as I sit at Central Park, I’ll admire the city that calls my name,
ever since I first learned how to dream.
Hello Hello, I hope you dont mind me popping in with a quick review. I will apologize that this might be a short one. With that being said I hope my thoughts will brighten your day nonetheless. Let's get into it, shall we?
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this piece, it felt so alive. I haven't been to New York yet but I can tell you truly enjoyed your time there. The was you describe the city ( No pun intended ) was glowing from the inside out. As usual, your settings are so lush and vivid.
Honestly, I could see a lot of the lines in prose for some ubern fansty book. The idea of a rhythm pulsing through a city is such an interesting one. You did an amazing job with the metaphors there are so many great ones I couldn't choose one to highlight more than others. I also love how seemingly diverse New York is.
Now normally I would move on to feedback but I couldn't find anything. Instead, I think I move on to my closing thoughts.
I hope you aren't too jet-lagged from your trip, please take time to rest. This was an amazing read but I'm starting to think that's your work's status quo. Oh and before I forget congrats on finishing Daughter Of War!
As always keep writing and remember to drink water!
Thank you!!!! <3
Hi Ley, popping in with a review!
This is such a lovely poem and as someone who also dreams of New York quite often, I think you captured the feeling perfectly.
Your imagery, first of all, is so vivid. Some of my favorite lines are “framed by towering skyscrapers” and “neon lights flickering like stars”. These lines really capture the electricity and excitement of New York.
The way you differentiate the neighborhoods, as well, really caught my attention. They are so different and I loved the way you described them. I almost wish we could have gotten more of that, describing more of the neighborhoods and highlighting the diversity of NYC.
Overall, this is such a nice poem and you did a great job! Bravo 👏
