In A Knave for A Laugh

Your values are arbitrary at best

And self-defeating at worst

Hey KingQueenKnave~

This is perfect because I am on mobile and this is short so here we go. let the finger pain commence

Well I really don't know what to cover here. You posted this just in time for Review Day, good job. This review is probably going to be equally as short as this poem.

Your values are arbitrary at best

Well, you said this.

And self-defeating at worst

And you said this, too.

This is more of a statement. Is this directed to a specific person or tool the reader, may I ask? And if so, why?

Sorry if this review wasn't so much. I don't really know how to respond to it but it is very short.

Hello, KingQueenKnave! It's review day.

I'm not quite sure what this poem is trying to accomplish. Is this a general "you" addressing the population, or is it directed at a single person? To be honest, I think it's a bit too vague.

While I do not have an opinion either way on the content of the poem, I can tell that the execution could be more effective if you changed a few things.

First of all, revamp the subject you as the poet are addressing. If it is society at large, you could just take out "you" altogether and just say "values are arbitrary." This is a more general statement without the confusion of second person.

If this poem is directed at a certain person or group of people, make it known. How is the reader supposed to understand who the subject is if you simply use "you?" It has crossed my mind that you as the poet are addressing the reader. However, because I am confused, I can assume that others would be confused as well. Try to be a little more specific.

While short poetry is sometimes effective, I think that this one could do with a little fleshing out. How are values arbitrary, and how are they self defeating? Which values? All of them?

I find quite regularly that poetry that is focused on a specific subject tends to do better. This is broad. Narrow your focus. Another thing that I think would improve this poem is the addition of more poetic devices. Try imagery, or metaphor, or simile. Even rhyme might benefit this.

Altogether, I think that you have the beginnings of a nice poem, but it needs a little reworking to really be an effective piece. I hope that this review proves useful to you! Happy YWSing!

*Googles definition of arbitrary*
Okay, now i'm ready to review. This is my first review so please don't judge.
Your poem was short but powerful. Google defines arbitrary as "based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system. " But people who have values have a reason behind it. The only reason why people like ISIS and the KKK exist is because they have a distorted set of values. Everybody has values, just not the right kind. My adoptive father believes that a white woman should never marry a black man. That's the values he grew up with. Everyone has values. Some are just way more screwed up than others.

Well to me this is a very short but a goo poem and it has a lot of meaning to it even thought it is only like 2 lines but it has a lot to say for.

One of the things that I would like to say is that you are Avery good writer but I don't think people would like the way you write you poems because to some people they might be to short or to long but it me it is to short.

There is a lot if this I would like to say all good but I don't think I have the time so I will say so stuff I need for you to remember an that is you are a very good writer and you need to keep writing and tell me if you ever want to write a new poem or story. Your poem was really good but there isn't a lot I say when it is only two lines short I think you need to make your poems a but longer with a lot of detal.

Your humble servant,

This looks like a really bad episode of Green Acres.
