Mr. Quirk(Chapter 4)

In Mr. Quirk

It seemed like a daydream as well as a nightmare to Mr. Quirk to have a 24 × 7 Governmental protection in and out of his house. As the nature of the attacks was still unknown, it was not bad to have people always surrounding, especially when the ever-mysterious attacks were misfortuning the people who were alone. The newspapers would print everyday that someone went to the kitchen to bring a fork and was found dead; someone went to the garden and the same happened. On the other hand, being called for questioning now and then was as annoying as having a houseful of strangers to a recluse which he was already facing. He was suspected to had passed his 'creativity' to the enemies. As there was no definite proof, he couldn't be arrested but that was quite similar to that of a house arrest.

The Government and so the countrymen said that he had invented something about 60 years ago which had killed 5 people in the vicinity. No proof had been gathered at the time but at that point of time he had invented something unknown and 5 people died. The government laid an easy connection between the two. None had paid any attention at that time and now they were enduring the result.

However, he couldn't recall anything like that. All he knew was that he came to this house 60 years back. He had suffered many doubts at that time about his past but it was concluded that he had a memory loss for some incident– an unknown incident. I too love my country, he thought, I too want to protect it.

A lot of wild thoughtsvwhich he had never thought conquered him. Was he the devil behind all of these? But he really didn't pass anything to the enemy. Did he do it 60 years back? Was he such a bad man to do all these? He tried to make another theory. Perhaps, if he had passed it, he didn't do it intentionally. Or it was— “No! Not another one!” he shouted at the robot who stood emotionless jn front of him holding a piece of paper which said ‘You will present yourself at the Police station for a questioning session’

Hey Forever!

RandomTalks here with a review!

I really like the different approach to this chapter. It took a surprisingly relaxed pace compared to the previous one and I feel like what had been missing for me until now has finally showed up. I like how you takes us inside Mr. Quirk's mind and give us a glimpse of what is going on there. We understand him on a different level here, and we finally get the introduction that was absent from the first three chapters.

I like how this entire chapter was told completely from his point of view. This way we understand his confusion of being accused of such a crime, his frustration at having police protection at all times and the lingering doubt at the back of his mind - did he really make this happen?

I was also a little surprised that they had not made further inquiries 60 years ago when the 5 men had died mysteriously. It was the job of the police and it seems rather careless the way they ignored it at that time. Not very dutiful of them. The entire situation is a little perplexing. What did Mr. Quirk invent that is now causing so many people across the country to randomly drop dead? I am really curios about where this is going.

That is all. Keep writing and have a great day!

Hi ForeverYoung299,

Mailice here with a short review! :D

I am positively surprised about the chapter. I like how you used a different style to describe a little bit what happened and why Mr. Quirk is so important for the story and the state.

You've also managed to add a good pace and a great structure with this chapter that makes it very easy for the reader to read. The reading flow is good and it makes sense how you jump from one point to the next. The transitions through it are understandable.

From the perspective of the plot, I like the fact that new information is given and you also learn more about Mr. Quirk. Already his train of thought, where he thinks he loves his country and in the section before that, where they talk about an incident, shows me - if there is a concrete connection - that he is not guilty for his actions, but works more for the good.

A really good chapter with a nice change of pace. Something like this can be inserted regularly between a lot of plot-driven dialogue to give the reader a bit of a break and more or less build up an understanding of what has happened. What I also liked was the combination of Mr Quirk now being in the house and you using that to tell the story through the descriptions.

Other points that stood out to me:

24 × 7 Governmental

24 × 7 can also be written 24/7.

that someone went to the kitchen to bring a fork

That's oddly specific for a newspaper. Why a fork? :D

He was suspected to have passed his 'creativity' to the enemies.

I really like your way to describe this here. It has a certain uniqueness and gives the reader also this feeling, that there is something off.

about 60 years ago which had killed 5 people in the vicinity. No proof had been gathered at the time but at that point of time he had invented something unknown and 5 people died.

You're repeating yourself here with the death of five people and I would try to rewrite it a little bit in the sentence so it doesn't seem like that. For example, in the first sentence you could say: "about 60 years ago where an accident occurred in the vicinity." That way you give the reader a bit of suspense. While he is wondering what kind of accident it was, you then reveal in the next sentence that five people died in this accident.

A lot of wild thoughtsvwhich he had never thought conquered him.

There's one too many "v " here.

A very contrasting chapter to the previous chapters. I liked it a lot.

Have fun writing!

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!

First Impression: Okayy....this is continuing to get even more mysterious here and I love it....with every chapter it looks like we learn a couple of new details only to have a lot more questions get added to what's happening here and how its happening.

Anyway let's get right to it,

Okayy...quite a lot happening in that paragraph there...I almost feel like its perhaps a bit too many things happening in that paragraph cause it does seem to have more than one point in it. Maybe splitting up his feelings about being safe from potential attacks and his feelings about being questioned for potentially helping the enemies would make that a better start there. At any rate, we do get a nice picture of the mental state that Mr. Quirk is in there, which definitely helps out in sort of grounding what his thoughts are here after the events of the first three chapters.

Hmm, well that's certainly something that appears to have happened quite a while ago. 60 years ago is certainly quite far back in time...and well its really interesting to see how they manage to even discover something and link it back to Mr. Quirk if it happened that long ago. That shows they did a lot of research there before they went to him. Although now...it looks like the the whole country seems to believe he's done something wrong here...and there's not proof for things to be decided in either direction.

However, he couldn't recall anything like that. All he knew was that he came to this house 60 years back. He had suffered many doubts at that time about his past but it was concluded that he had a memory loss for some incident– an unknown incident. I too love my country, he thought, I too want to protect it.

Hmm, well at least it looks like he genuinely does want to help the country there...he certainly seems to be telling himself that he does truly does love the country and never meant to do anything bad...and it appears all this confusion stems from some sort of memory loss there...which certainly buries this in even more mystery here...so that makes things even more precarious here.

Ahhh...every single chapter seems to end on a cliffhanger ahhh...which don't get me wrong, that's an awesome idea, it certainly makes you want to keep reading. :D Its a lovely set of realizations here as he to deal with the fact that years he ago Mr. Quirk might have actually done something wrong willingly or perhaps even against his will. I do love how he does have doubts about all of that...just to show that he isn't at all sure of what may have happened back then.

Aaaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: Overall, another pretty neat chapter, and I'm really intrigued to see how the whole questioning chapter is going to go here...well at any rate, this is all I've gotta say for now. :D

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.

Stay Safe
Harry

Thanks a lot for this. This was really helpful
