holidays

one paper star: burnt at its edges
two glass angels mi_sing wings
the loved—the distant—the forever gone.

three blackbirds with pOinTeD beaks
perched on my windowsill
as the wind s c r e a m e d.

four candles melted—
dIsFiGuReD, wicks gASPing for air:
flames sputtered and hissed.

five empty chairs,
each one ngled slightly because
I didn’t light the centerpiece.

holidays.

Hello there, Elektra! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the possessed S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - This is a poem on the holidays. About the glass angels and the crows, the candles and the woes. With the holidays comes the idea of family and being close with one another, but sometimes, there are those that have to spend it all alone.

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I personally have no recommendations to make. If you would like to edit this, then you may, but that is your choice.

Chocolate Bar - I love how you described everything, I could see it vividly in my mind. I think that my favorite part would have to be about the candles melting because it reminds me of a classical way to celebrate the holidays and it seemed like a living being with the way you described the candle wicks as “gasping for air”. If I had to guess, this poem shows that not everyone on Christmas is cheerful and that while many people come together there are also those who are drifting further and further apart and have the holidays as a cruel reminder of what was lost.

Closing Graham Cracker - A slightly melancholic holiday poem, but with this melancholy comes a sense of calm beauty, like a house far off in the snowy woods, far from prying eyes. It’s the holidays without the chatter and bustle, just the silence of angels in shadows, dancing with the candle flames. I’ve enjoyed reading this and…

I wish you a luminescent day/night! ^v^

Overall, good poem! I really like how you used symbols to substitute letters. The formatting is very interesting. I don't have any criticisms I could make, and the way the worldbuilding is on this is a little bit, but not too much. I can envision how the speaker might be feeling. I can feel every word.

Hi there! Taost here for a little review! <3

So, first off, my first thought was "This is kinda dark", though it was enjoyable to read through. Mostly the last stanza was dark though. "Five empty chairs, each angled slightly because I didn't light the centerpiece."
This adds a sense of loneliness. Mystery too. Why didn't the narrator light the centerpiece? Did they forget? Was it intentional? Who were the chairs meant for?

This poem definitely peaked my interest and curiosity though. It didn't rhyme like a typical poem, which was also interesting.

I liked the light feeling of this poem. It wasn't like it punched you in the gut, but it was relatable and realistic.

The way you wrote this was fascinating and really leaves me on the edge of my seat. I really wanna know more. I wanna see what's next and I want to know the reasoning behind it all. If your goal was to do this, then you definitely succeeded.

I also noticed how unique you wrote this. The different spellings and spacing was something I haven't seen before and I absolutely loved it. It made it special.

I say keep writing. This was such a beautiful piece and it's super unique and different. I loved it, and I'm sure others feel the same. I don't have much to say about any changes that could be made, I think it's absolutely perfect the way it is. Good job!

This is a really lovely poem! I love all the creativity in the symbols and things, they're very fun. My favorite was the "mi_sing wings"
