I love you.
You know that.
But please,
just stop.
.
I don’t want
to be your princess
waiting in my ivory tower
for you to save me.
.
You don’t need
to be my knight,
fighting my dragons,
when I can defeat them alone.
.
So put away your
shining armor
and let me see your face
beneath that silver helmet.
.
Do you need this?
To be the hero?
Is it something
that makes you feel useful?
.
I love you, I promise,
but you don't have to save me.
I’m perfectly capable,
of saving myself.
.
So take a step back,
and watch me fight,
and if I fall,
don’t hesitate to catch me.
.
And for all it’s worth
I swear I’ll do the same for you.
Sometimes even the bravest knight
will get a bad bruising.
.
I love you,
but I don’t need you.
And that’s nothing
to be ashamed of.

It took me a while to start typing in my review, because after I read the last line, I was overwhelmed by an impalpable sensation and I just froze. I had to take it a few deep breaths before typing-- maybe that's what happens when I am overcome by such strong emotion and relation xD
I'm the only girl in my family. Considered weak and unable to protect myself-- this just makes me really angry. This poem speaks for itself, really. The strength and determination of the 'princess' so well-written and the brutal, yet beautiful honesty in her words.
" I love you,
but I don’t need you.
And that’s nothing
to be ashamed of. "
And it just ended!! :O How? Why? It was all so good, I wanted to read more. This boosts any girl's self-esteem, including me. This was so nice :'(
I think I went overboard, but no matter how hard I explain the emotion I felt after reading this, it will still be imprecise. Feelings like that can only be felt, and not described xD
Just...really, good job.

Wow, thank you! I'm so glad you liked it! I almost deleted this poem a little while ago because I didn't think it was any good, but I'm glad I didn't, now that I know how much you liked it. Thanks
Hey there! Isha here for a review
And I'm going to say, right here and right now, that I really liked your last stanza. In the whole poem, it had to be my favourite. It's the one that adds the most dimension. The most meaning. It packed some sort of a punch, and I have to say that I admire that.
On the other hand, though, I'm actually going to counter all of the gushing reviews and say that I didn't really care for the poem as a whole. The idea? Yes, excellent. But you executed it in a way that's incredibly cliche and overdone (which is why I liked the last stanza the best. You finally drove your point home). The whole "I don't need a knight to save me!" thing is sort of overdone, in my opinion.
It's been penned by thousands of young teenaged girls the world over and thrown around all over the place.
But aside from the cliche execution, you take quite a while to actually get to the point. You spend stanza after stanza repeating the same thing: that you're capable of taking care of yourself. That's awesome. The point was made, very well, by stanza two, and the rest, up until the last one, just seems unnecessary, if you know what I mean. They don't add anything original. There's really no imagery, save for the old "princess vs. knight" metaphor, and even that's used to, simply, state the same thing over and over again.
I'd look this over and make some cuts to the stanzas, or try a different angle. I really did like the last stanza though, and the idea is one that deserves some spotlight. Just... not the same way it's gotten spotlight by ever since the Cheetah Girls came out with Cinderella.
Good job and keep writing,
~Ish
I long for a woman who would say this to me.
Hey, i like that you tried to base your poem on the expression of the content that you wished to discuss, however, if you are going to do that, there usually needs to be a crapload more description involved. I feel as though the structure of this poem could of fit better into a rhyming poem (you would have just needed to fix stuff to make it flow).
Honestly, if a poem is not going to rhyme you should really make up for it by really experimenting with in depth description. Why don't you take a look at Sylvia Plath's work to see what I mean :

To conclude, I did appreciate your idea behind the poem, well done.
Hi, I'm Celticmusicgirl and I'll be reviewing your poem today.
My review will mainly focus on spelling/grammar and the over all flow of the piece as well as how it comes together and makes sense.
First, I only noticed one thing in the spelling/grammar department. You said " Do you need this? To be the hero?" Is it supposed to be two separate questions or one? If it is oen question I would suggest that you say "Do you need this To be the hero?" as for grammar with this piece I would suggest that you don't say "this". Just say "Do you need To be the hero". Just a suggestion though. You can take it or leave it.
Second and last, this is something I just picked up on that I think could be clarified you said
"I love you,
but I don’t need you." I don't think you should say that "I don't need you" Maybe say that
"I love you
but I don't need you to rescue me"
Again just a suggestion.
Overall this was a great piece and I really liked it.
Keep writing.
Hello there!
I like how you clearly spelled out that the narrator can take care of herself and that she doesn't need a knight in shining armor to do this or that. I also like how you added that he can help her if she needs it, i.e catching her if she falls. That shows me that the narrator isn't too proud to ask for help. x)

So the blurb about a poem that doesn't rhyme totally drew me in, cause a forced rhythm scheme is no bueno.
On the message of your poem, I just gotta say I loved it. It's something I agreed with fully.
This poem was overall nicely written. I like how short the verses were, so it gave the poem a simple and easy flow. The message was conveyed clearly in each verse, and it was overall easy to understand and easy to relate to. This was a good poem, so thanks for sharing, and especially a good message that needed to be said. Take a note, Disney!
Hey, thehotinpsychotic here to review!
As a feminist, I had to read the ideal in poetry form!
Really there's no grammar mistakes, but the only thing is that the periods are awkwardly placed. But this was probably done when you posted it, not when you originally typed it, because I've seen a lot of other works like that.
I wish you would've gone deeper into how girls are in actuality on their own, but I do like this poem. Good job!
