Internal Battleground

In Attempted Poems

I love myself.

I hate myself.

I'm complicated.

I have so many friends.

I have so many enemies.

I don't fit in.

It makes me feel so special.

It makes me feel like a freak.

It makes me feel alone.

I'm a diamond buried beneath a pile of rocks, waiting for someone to dust me off and see my shine.

I'm a pebble in a cave full of gems, fading away into the background so I won't get in the way.

I don't know what I am. I never will.

One day I'll meet someone who understands me and accepts me for who I am.

No one will ever be able to get me to open up. They wouldn't like me anyway. I'll always be alone.

There are billions of people on this Earth. Surely one of them will put up with me...

I'm talented. I'll be a world famous author when I'm older. Everyone will love my work.

Writing is too hard. I can't do it. I'll never be good enough. Never be brave enough.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the future has in store.

I'm brave, I'm strong, I'm powerful. I can deal with whatever is thrown my way.

I'm such a child. So weak and sensitive. The world will crush me like a bug beneath its boot.

I'll do my best. I just hope that will get me where I need to go.

God is up there. He loves me. He knows I'm special, and He will lead me to my future.

There is no God. Just a figment of my tormented imagination. No one is looking out for me, but me.

Whether or not someone is up there, I still have to be strong.

I'm a good person. I'm so kind and empathetic, and I do the right thing. What more could they ask?

I'm so selfish. My self-pity is sickening, my jealousy disgusting. What kind of monster am I?

I try. That's all I can say.

I believe in myself.

I doubt myself.

I am myself. And I'll just have to learn to live with that.

I may be just a little bit complicated.

But that's good.

But that's bad.

But that's me.

I read the other reviews, so needless to say, I was going to say a little bit of what they all said and then a double thank you for your originality with the whole dealio. And one new thing: I don't believe there are "good" people. We are all ugly in some ways; we all have scars to show, but we usually try and cover up the scars. I think a lot of people are in the boat you have described and are really lost. Also, I don't see how there can be a right way and wrong way to do things, without god(s). Just some thoughts, maybe they will help, maybe not.

This is epic! I love it <3 :) It's perfectly describes the internal battle that people go through. Needless to say, this is mainly while we're teens but that's beside the point. ;) lol I really like the fact that this is one of those poems that doesn't rhyme and yet still flows like poetry. Keep it up!

Hey there! My names EmoChikXoX, and I am so excited to review your awesome poem!

First things first, I have never actually read a poem quite like this. Its original and unique. Your title INSTANLY draws my in, when I was looking through the poem page to find a poem to read (obviously!) yours instantly stuck out to me, and I'm glad to review it. :)

I like the topic you have used, the constant internal battle that goes on inside most people heads. How we contradict ourselves constantly and how we never believe we are good enough. and you have captured that perfectly. The way the top two lines of each paragraph are crossed adds another element to your poem, and the way at the end you end up compromising with the two terms of the paragraph.

You have also picked the right things to make the paragraphs about, whereas there are lots of things that constantly go through the minds of people, you picked the most relevant (if that makes any form of sense). The format of your poem is good, as I think I have already said and it is just the right length. Some poems are too short and leave you wanting more and others are too long and just end up rambling, but yours is a perfect length! :)

I see no grammatical errors, or spelling, or punctuation errors either, so well done. You're a great poet and I enjoyed it completely. I hope my review was okay, and not just me going on. I cant wait to read some more of your amazing work! Keep it up! :D

Hey there MysteryMe that poem is totally BRILLIANT!! I've been reading a numerous number of poems and I have to admit that I have never come across a poem like this one! Its is simply oozing with personality, detail and originality.

I can't even say which was my favorite line, because the whole thing was just outstanding :)
I like the way you used your words, in a simple way, which makes it so easy to understand.
I love how you cancelled the words and then gave us a clear meaning at the bottom.

I like the entire poem from the first word to the last, great work. Keep writing, and thanks for sharing :)

Yay, thank you!!! I'm so happy that you enjoyed reading it!:)

Hello, my friend.

First, I honestly have nothing to critique about this poem. I only wished to tell you something: I felt as though I was reading my own thoughts. I was, honestly, shocked.

I'm a good person. I'm so kind and empathetic, and I do the right thing. What more could they ask?

I'm so selfish. My self-pity is sickening, my jealousy disgusting. What kind of monster am I?

I try. That's all I can say.

I say that to myself each day, but I have never had the courage to write it down. When a poem reaches into my soul like that, I can only say thank you. So, thank you for sharing that with us. I didn't know anyone else thought those things. I am truly taken back. Just, thank you, my friend.

Thanks! I wrote this from the heart, so I'm really glad that my poem meant so much to you :D

It was fantastic, my friend!

All I can say is: Wow.
Seriously, this is how I feel one hundred percent of the time..

I love the format of the poem: the positive, the negative, the neutral.
It's simple, but effective, and you captured the inner monologue that most of us experience perfectly.
It speaks a message that's easy to decipher, which is good.
I don't have anything to pick at, which is also good.
So, good job and keep writing!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! It's something I wrote from experience, so it helps to know that I'm not the only one :).
