The Silent Generation

Over the last 3 years I have managed to almost entirely stop writing, and this is not acceptable to me. I fear that my talent will leave me if it is not exercised properly, so I promised myself I would try to write at least one thing each week. This is one of my attempts, though I'm not sure if it is a keeper or not. Thanks for reading!

I want to make a difference

To those around me that I see

Struggling with sorrows,

Struggling just to be.

I want to hug a stranger,

Tell someone that I care.

But in today’s day and age,

It’s not “okay” to share.

All I wish to do is love,

Even if it’s not returned.

But it’s “not right” for me to care

In a world with lines this blurred.

It used to be the norm,

To smile, kiss, and wave.

Now such acts are criticized.

Our world is ruled by hate.

It is up to us to change our future,

Bring back the love, so to speak.

No one should be forced to struggle,

Without someone there to see.

Change is possible today,

If we stop all hesitation,

But it is easier to remain,

The silent generation.

I liked this. The rhyme made it so much better, and I typically don't like poems that rhyme! However, at some points it was slightly off.

Sorry you haven't been writing lately. That really sucks. I go crazy if I'm not reading or writing. Just keep a journal to keep all the writings together.

Anyways, this is good other than the off rhyme. Keep writing, and you'll keep yourself sane. :)

Hi wewinwelose, Dream with review on your poem.
. A poem with a donotation meaning in poem which is easy to understand because you using a simple words/ diction without hiding another impiled meaning behind. Poetry writing style is clearly shown on the desire of a poet / poet hopes to make a difference to the world. The poet want to do so because for him, the world looks miserable and lack of caring to each other. The poet also reminded the importance of the changes done to stop the woes caused by apathy.

Change is possible today,
If we stop all hesitation,

Figuration is less used in the poem as the poet wants the message delivered openly and clearly. However, it still can provide a comforting feeling when reading it. The tone of voice obviously educating and teaching with giving/ telling the hopes, and encourage readers to take heed.
Overall, very nice poem to read. I like the unpretentious diction but affecting. Keep it up! :)
Kudos,cheers.

Wow, I really like this! Everything you said was so undeniably true as well.

It is very moving, and it reminds me of how back in the "good ol' days," people knew everyone else, they waved at each other, and even left their doors unlocked at night, because they didn't have to worry.

In present time, the story is completely different. The whole poem feels like it has a steady, ascending emotional drive, and the last line rings out like a gong and all that pent-up emotion is let out in three words.

Plus, the rhyming you used was excellent. It really supported each previous rhyme and carried you to the next. Some poems on these types of subjects are too melodramatic and seem forced an detached, but not this one. I could tell you truly cared about your subject, and it was passion that drove you to write it.

I don't have anything bad to say about it!

Don't stop writing either!

Wow, this is amazing. Nothing at all to critique- are you sure you haven't been writing that much? :)

I have not had any inspiration in the last few years. This last week I have had a huge swing of inspiration and have been writing constantly, but before this week I have had barely any :(. I'm so glad you liked it!

Nice~ ;) This poem is so true, society gives no room for love for our fellow man. When did it become this way and when will it end?

Viv here, awesome poem We. Especially at the end, great rhyming. But I can't believe you haven't written in 3 years. I'd die...of boredom, and lack of imagination. Seems your talent well didn't even start to run dry though.

By the way, love the title, sounds like a rock band. Opening act "We are The Silent Generation!" ^v^

Haha thanks for the feedback! I love hearing that my work is appreciated. I have written some in the last three years, but it could easily be 5-6 months in between poems, and they were never any good. I'm glad I've got it back though! Thank you for replying :).

I like anchovies~ but nobody calls me that.
