I tell myself I’m beautiful
But the next day I skip breakfast and lunch
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But stop in the hallways to look in the bathroom mirrors
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But I brush my teeth so hard my gums bleed to rid the yellow
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But then I realize the outfit I picked is cute, just not on me
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But I no longer smile in pictures due to the tint of yellow
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But every night I cry because I’m ashamed of how much I eat in a day
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But my clothes drape over my body to hide me
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But I wear makeup to cover my eyebags and to hide the imperfections
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But I go through my camera roll and crop myself out of group photos
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But then I go on social media and change my mind
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But the girls at school are just so perfect
I tell myself I’m beautiful
And then grab the scale to see if I gained weight
I tell myself I’m beautiful
Because I know no one else will say it for me
I tell myself I’m beautiful
Because it’s just the one thing I need to hear
I tell myself I’m beautiful
But I know one mean comment can stop me from doing so
I tell myself I’m beautiful
Because I was taught fake it ‘till you make it
So I tell myself I’m beautiful

Hey, this is lovelydove. This is going to be a really long review, so bear with me.
My mom always told me that I was beautiful. When I get a sudden urge of confidence after she says this, it flies away from me too fast. I look at the other girls my age, and I wonder, 'Why can't I be that?' Then that's when the cycle begins all over again. I tell myself that I am beautiful, but then, my mind travels, and my eyes wander, to what I could be more.
This poem resonated with me the most. This is probably one (no, it is) of my favorite poems. This is just so beautiful.
''I tell myself I’m beautiful
But the next day I skip breakfast and lunch''
I'm a freshman in high school, and when I went for my orientation day, I saw other girls, their skinny bodies and legs, and curvy bodies. When school started, I didn't eat breakfast and lunch, and I only ate dinner. I was 155pounds at first, and then when school started, I was 135 pounds. I began to feel sick, and my stomach pained all the time. I didn't know how much this hurt my body and my mind.
''I tell myself I’m beautiful
But the girls at school are just so perfect''
When I say this poem made me cry, it made me cry. They are just too perfect, and I am an imperfection.
''Because I know no one else will say it for me''
In order to believe I am beautiful; I need to hear it from someone else. I don't have that sort of confidence to believe in myself.
Overall, I just loved this poem. Consider yourself beautiful, and others beautiful as well.

i love it you can js see int he last part the spark that ties it all together
Hello, My Friend!
Hiya, Hop! Happy Thanksgiving ^^
I don't think I've read much of your poetry yet, so when I saw this, I thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad I did! To start, it's such a lovely poem—not only is it very well-written, but the message is so raw and real, and doesn't hold back on just venting out that feeling so many young people feel at some point in their life, comparing themselves to the "average" image in their head. by the end, I'm left wanting to hug this narrator and tell them they are beautiful, but I'm also thinking how this speaks to so many people, and I love to see poetry that's not afraid to just be real and address these feelings we have, even if they can be so negative and intimidating to handle.
*ahem* For a more technical review, I've got nothing! Love, love, love this.
Favorite parts—I mean, that's hard with this one! From a technical viewpoint, it's all great, so going by just what really stood out and spoke to me...
THIS, I love this because jeez! Sometimes, you have those days where it feels like clothes can really make or break you, and when it doesn't work, you never feel like it's the clothing's fault but your body's, and it's such an icky feeling to have...Ugh.
Oh, the impact social media can have on your mind...And this is something that can affect everybody, all ages or genders or personalities...Like this is just so true and so sad ToT
Overall, this was a beautiful poem, Hop!! Great job, and thank you for sharing it!
