I used to feel in crimson floods,
In golden sparks, in emerald buds.
My world was painted, loud and bright,
Now everything dissolves to white.
Red was rage, and red was love,
Now it’s static from above.
No pulse, no fire, no aching chest,
Just silence where the heart should rest.
Orange was panic, orange was flame,
The rush, the thrill, the hunger, the name.
Now it’s a whisper I can’t hear,
A distant echo drowned in fear.
Yellow was laughter, yellow was light,
A childhood sun that burned too bright.
Now it flickers behind my eyes,
A ghost that smiles, then quickly dies.
Green was growth, and green was grace,
A forest blooming into space.
Now it’s dust beneath my feet,
A promise lost, a dream obsolete.
Blue was sorrow, but it moved,
A tide that pulled, a truth that proved.
I still could cry, still could feel,
Now even pain seems less than real.
Indigo was sleep and thought,
The depth of things I never caught.
Now it’s fog, a vacant stare,
A mind that’s here but unaware.
Violet was the final hue,
The ache for something pure and true.
Now it’s faded, worn away,
A bruise that time forgot to stay.
And all the colors I once knew
Have drained from me like morning dew.
I’m not broken, not okay,
I’m just fading.
All the colors are grey.

I just read your poem, and I honestly don’t even know where to start—because it hit hard. Like, in that quiet, lingering way where you finish reading and just kind of sit there for a second, letting it settle in. This piece is incredibly beautiful, but also haunting in a really raw and relatable way. It’s the kind of poem that stays with you.
The way you structured it around colors—how each one used to represent a feeling, a memory, a part of who you were—and then slowly showed how all of that faded… that was such a powerful concept. It’s more than just a metaphor; it feels like a whole emotional journey, wrapped in color and memory and loss.
I loved how each stanza started with a strong, vibrant feeling tied to a color—“Red was rage, and red was love”, “Yellow was laughter, yellow was light”—and then you contrast it with this heartbreaking quietness, like everything that once made life feel alive is now just... gone or numbed out. You didn’t need to over-explain anything; the imagery does all the work, and it does it beautifully.
There’s something so honest in the line, “I’m not broken, not okay, / I’m just fading.” That line really got to me. You managed to capture that in-between space where you’re not completely shattered, but you’re not yourself either. It’s like emotional limbo, and you gave it a voice in a way that’s both poetic and painfully accurate.
Also, the rhythm and flow? So smooth. The rhyme never feels forced, and every stanza leads naturally into the next. You’ve got a real sense of how to use structure to support the mood of the piece. As the colors fade, the tone gets quieter, more distant—and by the time we reach “All the colors are grey,” it feels earned. That last line lands so well because you took your time getting us there.
If I could suggest anything, it would honestly just be: keep writing like this. Keep going deeper. You clearly have a talent for turning emotion into imagery, and that’s not something everyone can do. I’d love to see more pieces from you—whether they continue in this color/emotion style or branch out into something totally new.
Anyway, thank you for writing and sharing this. It really moved me. I don’t know what you were going through when you wrote it (or maybe it’s just creative expression), but either way, it’s something a lot of people will connect with. Because feeling like the world’s going grey? That’s more common than we admit—and you captured it so well.
Keep going. You’ve got something special.
Thank you for your review but I believe this is ai....
hiya and WOAH okay I really really like this
The very first thing that stood out to me was just the sheer structure of the piece. In particular, the rhyme scheme and the (mostly) iambic meter are done really well. Reading it genuinely feels a bit like a heartbeat, but it's so structured that the heartbeat almost starts to feel muffled, in a way - like you're growing further and further away from it. By the end, it becomes almost natural to feel it, and it almost feels like a sort of dissociation, until the "fading" line. That line feels like a misstep which really just whips you back to reality and forces you to acknowledge that you got lost in that rhythm of the piece.
Forgive me for harping on about the structure even more, but I just want to add that you have this sort of ebb and flow to the piece as well which just emphasises the aforementioned stuff. The way that you mention a colour, the feeling rising as you talk about what it meant to you, and then it recedes as you remind us that it's gone.
Okay and now the actual meaning AAA i love it okay okay I've grown kind of used to seeing colours as metaphor or symbols for emotions, but the way you use that is honestly really unique - not to show a character's current emotion, but the lack thereof. It really feels almost emotionally dead, which at the same time is so so so significant, because what has to happen to someone for them to feel nothing - just blank, just gray? It feels so unnatural and yet so so human at the same time, it's really amazing.
I DONT KNOW HOW TO TIE OFF REVIEWS
This is a really really nice piece and I do genuinely think you did fantastically with it - I feel the emotion tied into the words. VERY EPIC!!!

Hey there Hop!! I thought I’d jump in and give you a review on yet another amazing piece :)

I am loving your focus on the theme of colors lately! It’s nice to have a beginning point, a sun that our poetry can revolve around. And dare I say that this is more in-depth, a deeper exploration than your previous “Colors” work. You’ve got some masterful use of imagery and metaphor throughout, and I’m loving it!
Again, your use of rhyme is so well-done! It never feels awkward or forced, which I am loving.
In a way, this piece reminds me of a Robert Frost poem. The direct voice, the imagery--it all lends itself to that classical time period of poetry.
Now, my one suggestion is that you separate it into stanzas--perhaps one for each color? It would lend even more emphasis, making it so that this rainbow isn’t lost within the large paragraph.
I ADORE the way you describe these colors fading into black-and-white!! It’s really not just about the colors, and that’s the hallmark of a great metaphor. It’s the story of a person, and although you’ve described colors, the humanity shines through with each step forward.
Overall, I enjoyed this, Hop <3 You have such a talent!! Keep writing!
