Silence

What is silence?

Is it
When there is no sound of humans,
No talking, no laughter?

Is it
When the birds don't sing,
Not sounding their presence?

Is it
When you can't hear
The voice of a running stream?

Is it
When the air is still,
With no touch of the wind?

Is it
The middle of the night
When everything is asleep?

Is it
When you can no longer hear
God calling to you?
For without these
The silence
Would be deafening.

Hey Mello!

I really liked this! It was good, and I love poems that question and require real thinking on the readers part. The grammar was fine, really the only problem I had was this little part.

Is it
When the birds don't sing,
Not sounding their presence?
To me it just sounded strange and hurt the flow a bit.

I would also suggest splitting them up just because, but you don't have to. This was what I saw.

I agree that the ending is great, and I also agree that the stream line could be a little confusing, but overall, I think this was a nice poem. Good job! :)

This was a really good poem! I enjoyed reading it, and especially like the repetition through out. It kept a nice steady beat. The emotion in the poem was lacking, but for this kind of poem, I personally don't think it really mattered. I only brought it up, just so you were aware, however I reallly wouldn't worry or change it. I really liked the imagery in this poem. It definetly played around with the readers senses, which was lovely.
This two lines were my favourite:

Is it
When you can't hear
The voice of a running stream? I could both hear and see this one
Is it
When the air is still,
With no touch of the wind?

I also thought that your ending line was perfect. Great way to finish it off!

I couldn't find any grammatical errors, and I really have no suggestions. Sorry, but I'm probably not being very helpful.

Beautiful poem, I really enjoyed reading it :)
