I'm not supposed to have you
I'm not supposed to taste you.
I want what I shouldn't have.
You make me sick; you make me throw up.
Hives break out on my skin
Red bumps go along my arms.
I want, and I need a taste of you
your flavor tempts me.
I want what I should not have
I want the taste of your lips
the feeling of touching your body
your hands into my hands.
Your vibrant red color always attracts me
like bees to honey
But just being near your nectar
just being near you at all,
will make me allergic.
So please go away,
do depart for me
I want but I don't need you.
I regret the moment I kissed your cherry lips on my mouth
My lips grew bigger, and bigger
until they exploded.
I was naive then,
I didn't care.
But now, I have stayed far away from you
and the temptation is never there.
I will always love you
but I can never have you.

Hello lovelydove!! (Do you want any nicknames or have any?)
Hop here with my first review of 2026 (i think..)! I'm excited to read this poem because I am a big fan of your poetry! Let's just jump right in~~~~
Starting with your first few lines:
I really love how you already incorporate both the love and strawberries in the very beginning. It really just gives it a strong start and gets the reader immediately hooked. Like Alex said, using allergies as a symbol for toxic love is very creative. It paints a picture of how 'deadly' it can be. So far, this start is amazing and pure gold!!! Amazing job on that <333
When you say:
It just really brings out how it's like a craving to go back. It just really shows how much something so sweet can pull you back, even if it's toxic for you. Again, this works SO WELL for both a toxic love and an allergy to something so delicious!! Literally, I cannot. This poem is SOO GOOD AHHHH
Then the next section:
This part brings out the metaphorical part of toxic love while realistically talking about an allergy to strawberries. This part is definitely my favorite part of your poem. The way you word everything makes it fit so nicely! The way you sorta transition to mostly relating to strawberries in the first two lines and then focusing solely on the person is really smooth and I admire that because it was such a clean transition!!!
Moving on to
I also really like this part because of how much it emphasizes the craving of this person's love when it's something that shouldn't even be there. It shows the humanity of the poem. Yeah, I don't really understand how to explain it. It makes the reader realize that the narrator is simply just a human too.
Moving on:
Ok I think this part is very creative! I love how you added bees into the poem. It really helps expand the view of how illuminating this love of that person is, even if it's not good for the narrator.
This part. I love how you wrote this. It is like an awakening? Like a way of shouting out they don't want these feelings--like they are trying to fight them but failing? Sorry lol this is just my interpretation on it!
OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE. GUYS I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE POEM. The imagery is SO DETAILED yet it's not overwhelming. The way you describe everything is just so beautiful and invokes all of the things it's trying to.
OK THE WAY YOU ENDED THIS? It's like abrupt and it like makes the reader just sit there in silence. It just makes them realize how hard this entire thing just hits home? I'm sorry it's been a while since I reviewed so sorry if this was just useless!
I was going to give some tips but literally I can't think of anything ToT
This is by far my favorite poem in general which is saying something. Good job lovelydove <3

Hi Dove,
I’m reading a really difficult book and thought I take a break to read your poem 😊
I find an allergy to strawberries is one of the saddest things ☹ Because yes peanuts and stuff are probably more dangerous but but but strawberries!
I also like how the double meaning of strawberry VS unattainable lover is on full display in each line!
And given that I just proclaimed an allergy to strawberries basically a tragedy, I really like how you refute such thinking with this line: “I want but I don't need you.” Because… yes. I think that also works for addiction in general too. And then it’s nicely complemented with the final four lines
It kinda makes me think of a vegan friend of mine who told me that at first it was really hard to give up meat and she was always a bit miserable. But it’s been over 10 yrs for her now and she’s no longer tempted at all. I also heard from other vegetarians that meat has stopped really looking like food to them, the more they abstain.
I really like this poem for this allegory too. It really does go beyond strawberries! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for your review!><
This is such a great poem! It is amazing how you were able to relate two completely unrelated objects with each other and create this work. I like how you use the vivid imagery to create an image of desire for strawberries/person. The feeling is almost tangible, that irresistible urge to do something forbidden. However, once you got the object, you get hurt. One of my favorite parts is the lines that you say at the end.
"But now, I have stayed far away from you
and the temptation is never there.
I will always love you
but I can never have you."
You stayed away from it not because you hate it but because it was not good for you. Many people can relate to the fact that sometimes we need to avoid certain things that we want because it is bad for us.
Even if not all people may have experienced such love life or an allergy to strawberries, your poem makes it vivid and real for us, making this experience feel universal even if not everyone has it.
Overall, great poem! Keep it up.
Thank you! To be honest, I think this is one of the best poems, I've written!
Using allergy as a symbol for toxic love? I've never seen anything more original and creative!
Absolutely loved the raw imagery here. It's not conventionally poetic and that's what makes it really special. In a way, it pops from the conflict the poetess is drowning in.
Might turn this into a complete review soon.
Aww thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my poem! ><
