Chapter 3- The Heartz Chronicles

Then I awakened.

Moonlight spilled across my bedroom floor. My head throbbed, and for a moment, I couldn't remember how I got here. The last thing I remembered was that strange shimmer in the corridor... and then darkness swallowed me whole.

"Was that... a dream?" I whispered, brushing my fingers against the cool sheets. But my chest told me otherwise—there was this lingering urgency, like something out there needed me.

Then I saw her. Across the room, a faint silhouette moved. My heart skipped a beat. The curtains rustled, and there she was—Heartz. Her expression was calm, but her eyes glinted with determination.

"You're awake," she said softly, stepping closer. Her hand hovered near my shoulder, unsure if she should touch. "I tried to reach you before... but something pulled you away."

I swallowed hard, still dizzy. "I... I don't remember much," I admitted. "Everything went dark... and now—" My words faltered.

She knelt beside me, our knees almost touching. "You don't need to remember all at once," she said, calm but insistent. "Whatever happened, it's important. And you're not alone in this. I'll help you make sense of it."

''Make sense of what?'' I suddenly yelled. ''I just got stuck into another dimension, and the character from my story is talking to me! Maybe Jasmine was right, I'm officially crazy!''

Heartz blinked at me but didn't falter.

''You are the one who wrote my family's story. And you are the only one to change it for the better'', she said softly.

I felt a flicker of hope spark across my face. Maybe I could be the hero—not of this world, but of another world that needed me. But that hope quickly vanished. How could I, just a mere high schooler, save this world? What if I failed? And... what if people left me again? 

I couldn't bear the pain of that happening again. Not ever.

''As if Heartz. I'll end up failing like I do with everything else. And I don't want that to happen to your world''.

"Zissy," she said softly, stooping down to me on the bed, her tone almost motherly, "listen to this:

When shadows fall and fear takes hold,
Remember the stories your heart has told.
The smallest hand can change the tide,
And even the lost can learn to guide.

I paused. I remembered this poem.

Heartz softly smiled. ''You are the one who wrote that. If you can write a poem such as this, and make me come to life with your heart, you can do anything.

''I'll be here with you, every step. You're not alone in this—not for a single moment."

Her words wrapped around me like a warm blanket. Somehow, in that simple rhythm, I could feel the courage in my chest, faint but real.

''B-but what if I-

She shushed me gently. ''There is no such thing as failing. You only fail when you give up. And I know you haven't given up yet. You haven't given up on me and my world. You write about us all the time, never stopping.''

I thought about it. At least I could try. Try and make things right for her world.

I nodded. ''Ok... Let's do this.''
