The wind whipped, freezing
and choking my words.
Cold
~
The brittle, dry grass
begged for life again.
Dead
~
Kids smashed others, laughing
as the tidal wave washed through the halls.
Cramped
~
The day dragged on, as
boring as it could be.
Slow
~
Teachers explained concepts, ones
that I had never known before.
New
~
I plunged, excited, through
the library doors, the ones leading to the books.
Fun
~
...
"How was your first day back to school?" Mother asked.
"It was cold. It was dead. It was cramped. It was slow. It was new. It was fun." I replied.
(Sorry about this being two days after the first day back to school from winter break. Well, technically it was two, one of which school was canceled due to snowfall.)

This was a very novel type of poem, one which I like. I ESPECIALLY like how you expressed going to the library as "fun''! Ha, I guess we are all the same. So, a few things:
"I plunged, excited, through the library doors." Here, I don't think PLUNGED is the right word, maybe you can replace it with LUNGED or some other.
"Kids smashed others" : again, SMASHED doesn't sound right. Maybe you could change it into " "Kids PUSHED others. "
I love the second stanza!
Keep it up!
Mist
Thanks so much for the review and the suggestions! I think you're right about swapping the words. I'll see what I can do. Thanks again!
You're welcome.
First of all, this is a very cute and honest poem. Well, not exactly cute. Whatever.
I love the overall set up of this poem. It's just so cool! How you pull those words from the rest of the poem. It's so great!
I didn't think that the "new" stanza and the "fun" stanza fit the theme of the rest of the poem. But in the final sentence they seemed to make more sense.
Otherwise, this was a great poem! I saw no grammatical errors, and I do appreciate the idea.
Thanks for the read,
Shinobi
Thanks for the review!
Hello, Em101cats, I'm here to review your poem.

I really like this. It's short, it's simple, it's interesting and it's reflective. I like how you managed to keep to two lines per word, this makes the poem look neat and orderly. My only nitpick is that you seem to flow onto the next line as a sentence. I think it would be more effective if you included a rhyming scheme or used two different ideas instead.
I plunged, excited, through
the library doors, the ones leading to the books.
I think this kind of just looks like a split up sentence. Keeping the wording, you could make this look/sound a bit better just by rearranging it:
I plunged, excited, through the library doors,
the ones leading to the books. This is just a matter of opinion, but do you see what I mean?
I think that my favourite stanzas are the first 3 as they all have lovely descriptions and really capture the aspect of the typical school day. (especially the 3rd stanza)
You used an interesting, new type of poetry that kept me reading. I think your ending is also quite commercial as you can just picture the mums confused face as she tries to work out what you meant.
An interesting poem, keep writing ^-^
Well, that's all from me,
Godly
Thanks so much!
I definitely see how your correction helped. I will do that. Thanks!
This is an interesting look at how a day varies throughout, and why people often give a nondescript answer when asked how their day was, because it varies throughout, and you did a good job of capturing that. I find the fact that you bolded the words at the end of the stanzas, and again when you used them in the final section. Normally I would think something like that would make the repetition seem too obvious, but for some reason it seems to work here.
Thank you very much.
Pretty nice job. I think it's cool that you put all of the words at the end of the stanzas at the end as a description of a day. I think you're on the right track, just be on the lookout for tips and ways to improve!
Thanks Chocolate! (Best username ever, seriously.)
Why thank you
