E - Everyone

In Poems

He woke up one morning with a fierce idea in his mind.
With great ideas came, a host of great questions.
“Will I be able to pull it through?”
“Am I doing something clichéd?”

The questions were bothering him, but he followed his heart religiously,
He wrote the story with conviction, without following any norms.
Happy with the draft he was, he went to a publisher.
“This is my draft!” he said and handed him his story.

“No commercial viability!” he was told by a shrewd face.
Convinced that his idea was unique and fresh,
he went to many others who told him, “This is crap.”
Heart-broken yet determined he self-published his story.

Fifty one copies were sold after fourteen days of its release,
Thirty seven out of these were for friends and family.
Friends were asked to pay, family paid as sympathy,
“Poor little guy, spent three years for this drivel.”

“Enough is enough!” he uttered and devised a cunning plan.
I shall launch this book again but with a marketing blitzkrieg!
Critical acclaim shall follow and sales will go up soon.
The plan was all set up as the re-launch day was coming.

A week prior to the launch, he sent a notice to a filmmaker.
“Your movie was plagiarized from my highly successful book!”
A never seen before hysteria followed as media covered this story,
‘LOOK AT THIS DIRECTOR WHO STOLE AN IDEA WITHOUT CREDIT!!!’

The unknown book when launched again received an unprecedented sales,
He became the best-selling author before they realized the truth.
Then came another masterstroke when he launched his second book,
he created another controversy, he called someone a crook!

This someone was a reputed businessman who shared his name with his protagonist,
The media went ablaze again, “MR.X IS ACTUALLY A CROOOOK!!!”
The history got repeated, the book was another blockbuster,
This ingenious mastermind soon became a print mafia.

He developed his own fans, he now has a huge fan-club,
Haters have a ‘parody account’ to mock and troll his gimmicks!
Somewhere between all this, a writer became an entrepreneur.
His book are sold like chocolate cakes but he misses the joy of ‘writing.’

The commercial author was once an innocent man with ideas.
The innocence faded away somewhere as commerce won against art.

Hi there DrFeelGood! Niteowl here to review your poem for Team Blue Moon this fine Review Day!

Overall, I like the idea behind this. It's a solid commentary on how the media sensationalizes stories and the price of success.

However, I'm not convinced the poem format is serving the story well. All the sentences are very prose-like and there's little poetic devices beyond some random and inconsistent rhyming. I agree with the previous reviewer that a more fleshed-out story would make more sense and give you more room to play with humor and satire.

Overall, there are some great ideas in this, but it doesn't feel like much of a poem. Keep writing! :)

Hey there, I really like this!

I think this really gets the reader thinking about what success truly is. It's a thought provoking story that embodies a greater meaning.

However I noticed you referred to your your character mostly as "he". It got quite repetitive after awhile and I think you could consider either swapping "he" for another word or even rephrase the sentences which have "he" in them.

Another thing are the caps. It's definitely an attention grabber, but it doesn't look good especially when you drag the caps on, for example "CROOOOK". You're able to convey that same sentiment of rage without using the caps, trust me. If the words are right, the mood set will be right.

Now I actually think that you could have made this into an actual story with a proper plot instead of just narrating the flow of events. Maybe you intentionally wanted it to be told this way, which is perfectly fine. There is no definite formula for a story.

The last lines:

The commercial author was once an innocent man with ideas.
The innocence faded away somewhere as commerce won against art.

Perhaps try to use "However" for the second line? Just to show the comparison from his innocence to his greed for fame. Also you don't have to say "won against art", just simply put "won art".

Hope this review helped!

The caps were used in a totally different way. It was a taunt on journalism, who (at least here in India), use huge caps and eye-grabbing headlines without proper research. If I get more than 2 reviewers who say caps are not looking cool, I'll change it.

And I forgot to tell you, your review was awesome! Thank you :)
