For Frank

I prefer full names
to shortened versions
of identities;
Benjamin, not Ben
Samuel, not Sam
Me and you,
Not I.

I can't remember who I was before you.

To be frank,
you broke me.

Kazey here for a small review!

This was a very interesting piece. Because it's so short, you don't really need to worry about grabbing the readers attention, but i think you did just from the way you formatted this piece, so well done. To say the poem is so short, it hold a lot of meaning, of love lost and hearts broken. I love that you tied in the fact that he can't remember himself "I" to the fact that he no longer likes "Ben" or "Sam". It was a great touch.

I really don't have much for you to improve on. I would normally say imagery, but this is free verse, so do as you like. It was a really fantastic poem, so thank you for sharing it.

Hey! Godly here for a review, and happy review day!

Wow, Um, this is surely and interesting idea to say the least. I certainly like the ending, it's comical it's sweet but it could also be sad and fI'll of loss. Now when I review I tend to search for hidden meanings to emphasise how a simple poem can be either really simple or really deep. So forgive me for searching for another meaning that isn't there.

First of all I would like to talk to you about how you could improve your poem. Due to the short nature of this poem, you really need to focus on grabeing the reader right off the bat. This means that the use of free verse isn't overly effective here and it loses the reader pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong it is a good poem, it just could use a different format or rhythe to make it a lot better. Something that is easily done in this format.

The other improvemen is just a small punctuation error at the top. After identities you use a semi colon ";" when in fact it should be just a colon ":" as you are listing the ideas. You only use semi colons for when you have two full sentances that link to each other but can be said on their own either side.

OK now for the good stuff. I like how on the surface it just looks like a small poem about how you don't agree with the use of changing names for one others benifit. You would much rather we stuck to our original names so we stayed true to our selves. And by using the phrase to be frank you show how some phrases in society can be confusing and annoying when they use names. This leads on my deeper analysis. The narrator here seems to have some sort of complex that leads them to get annoyed or confused with simple things such nicknames or phrases with names in society. This actually represents a form of autism where the person in question can take change or short cuts because they simply can't understand why it's done. If we are to look at it from this point of view the poem becomes much more meaningful and a deep message is created: some people in society really can't take normal things and the first step to helping them is listening when they get upset and trying not to do that thing whilst you are around them.

Overall, this is an interesting poem that can be taken in many ways.

Keep writing,
All the best,
Godly :D
