Today is the best day of my life
Just spending it with my wife
The sun is shining
Today really did come in handy
It's all just fine and dandy
The sun is shining
Today is the day that I do what's best
Don't wake Sarah up, she needs the rest
.
Today I just made up my mind
Oh, how could I have been so blind
Please don't be so shocked
Today is the day I leave for good
I even told you that I would
Please don't be so shocked
Today is the day that I kiss you goodbye
Please promise me, you will not cry
.
I packed my bags and walked out the door
I'll never again see that dirty whore
Little Sarah grabbed me and screamed "WHAT FOR?!"
I stared blankly and then walked away
.
Today I moved away from home
And on the streets I'll roam
Looking for something
Today I saw my kid for the last time
And I spent my final dime
Looking for something
Today I really did mess up for real
I was programmed to hurt, not to feel.

Hey, i'm TiggaBiscuit! AKA Chuck10931!
I think this poem is amazing and I really like it, I must admit I got a little confused, not sure if there is a previous one or not! However! I do want you to keep up the good work and work on punctuation and spelling!
I really want to hear more of this story so please send me a PM with a link to any others if there are any!
Cheers,
TiggaBiscuit
Also if you haven't already, go see The Fault in Our Stars! It's amazing!
Awesome!
Hello! ^_^
Okay, so after reading this through a couple times, I think your biggest problem here is the rhyming. Rhyming has to be completely on point for it to work in a poem. A few of your lines feel forced to fit into the rhyme. For example:
I think that your trying to say that the family here are happy in their everyday lived. The first line was, almost, completely unnecessary, but it was worked in to fit the rhyme.
In poetry, word choice is extremely important. When you set out to write a rhyming poem, you are limiting the poem's potential. I think this poem could reach greater heights without the rhyming scheme.
I think you went ahead with the rhyming scheme to give it it's lyrical quality. But this is quite a sad poem. The rhyming throws us off that. It creates a bouncy quality that works better with happier poems. For example, it works well on 'The Daffodils', but it would have seemed completely out of place on 'The Early Purges'. It can work on sadder poems, but it's all down to word choice.
Next thing I'm going to talk about is the lines after your rhyming couplets. They feel incredibly forced, and I think I figured out why. It's the lack of punctuation. It's a very stylistic choice, but I think you need some in here. At the moment, the reader is just swimming along, reading everything but taking in nothing. It's because we don't know where to pause. Line breaks =/= a pause. Because this is an emotional poem, you really want the reader to move slowly. Let them take in everything, so I think you may want to punctuate.
A fun tip: You could have the punctuation become heavier throughout the poem. It'll let us know how serious things get throughout the poem.
One thing I want to touch on lightly is your use of enjabment. The first and last stanza kind of feel like four stanzas. I think you might want to split them up a bit.
On imagery, I think you could improve a bit. The famous rule 'show don't tell' doesn't just apply to prose.
Well, that's all from me. Hope this helps! ^_^
