Skyla's Journal Entries 10/4-10/7

Sklya Holt's Journal

October Fourth: Its been two days since the new mayor closed Frost Lark News. Susan Graham packed up and left town this morning. I went an entire day without reporting, and it was the longest day of my life. So I decided to start this journal. I keep it in my half of the apartment I share with Orlando Clayton, in my dresser. Not that I needed to write that. You won't read this anyway.

A blizzard has kicked up in Frost Lark, and its been devastating. Supposedly the outskirts got hit the hardest. I wanted to check it out, but Orlando is stopping me. He says I need to get out of the habit of investigating everything.

Orlando has tried some different jobs, like, for example, he worked as a car dealer. If you ask me, all that Mercury and illegally manufactured Sour Patches aren't good for him. Plus, it keeps him from writing, which is his most valuable talent. I haven't done anything productive.

October Fifth: I've been following Gregory Fitzgerald on twitter to post a few flames in protest. That was when I spotted this exact post:

“hey ppl how u liking the online notifications? Good sub for the prints? Email is so much more efficient”

I can't believe he didn't have us run the online news! Susan could have done much better than this apparent Zachary Zu guy that is the manager. Allow me to continue.

“I expected running a town would b more stressful, but with that person in prison, no big deal. Kinda fun, actually. As 4 that blizzard, just make a fire and grab some Sour Patch. Just dont get caught with the Sour Patch, cuz then wed have to arrest you. Probably shouldnt have said this.”

I am trying to think of who he could mean with “that person in prison” but I can't figure it out. Is it that girl leaving messages on the prints about a month ago?

October Seventh: The mayor mentioned in a recent tweet that he was considering leading soldiers to fight in the neighboring town. He says that if we can defeat them, we can annex our town and force the population to join us. He followed the post with a quotation mark and a close parenthesis (I think he intended for smiling emoticon). Not sure what he hopes to do. Sounds like he isn't all there in the head. But with no council to oppose him, we have no way of stopping him. He leads the attack on the fifteenth. Oh! Orlando came home with the mail. Its from... No way. I'm shocked.

Its from Sarah Lynn.

Fitzgerald, he...he actually shut down the post? This is a dark day. A very dark day indeed.

Review

Hey, I'm here to review. Since I'm typing from phone, it's gonna be short.

I think starting from this journal, characters that if before are important because they're reporting stuff, will be important to still, well, reporting stuff. Sklya's journal is proof of that, and I'm hoping for journals from other characters (like Orlando, who Sklya said has talent in writing).

Alright, so I think Sklya's relationship with Orlando needs clarification. Are they roommates? If so, are they friends? Are they lovers? I can only assume they might be friends, but I'm not sure.

I haven't done anything productive.

Considering the journal is proof of their productivity, I can only assume this is irony. However, if they are talking about jobs, well, yeah, I'm gonna agree. I assume Orlando pay everything for both of them?

So! The news are still running, but instead of using traditional method, it is delivered through the Internet. And Fitzgerald is trying to limit information as much as possible, I assume. Spreading news by emails is going to be a chore.

Since I'm caught up with the recent presidential debate, the phrase 'that person in prison' is such a strong reference to it. I am not sure who is the girl Sklya's referring to. Have to check previous installments.

The ending is a great cliffhanger. I assume the next installment is Sarah's letter? I'm very intrigued as to what's happening to her.

Anyway, that's all! Keep up the good job! :D

Thanks for the review! The next installment will involve Sarah's letter... I have plans. Heheheheheheh

Dracula
Review

Greetings, 'tis Dracula come to review again. :) There's not much to say about the plot. It's great, you've done an amazing job creating this complex world and situation. i thought I'd point out a few nitpicks instead...

You won't read this anyway. Guess
The guess doesn't fit in. I'm thinking you might have meant to write, 'I guess'?

Orlando has tried some different jobs, like a car dealer.
Grammar-wise, this sentence doesn't read correctly. I don't know how to explain, you'll just have to trust me, but it should read: like being a car dealer, OR, like car dealing.

Its from... That can't be. How? No, impossible.
I know what you're trying to do. It's just a little odd. I mean, was she writing at the exact same time as she opened the mail? Perhaps you could write her surprise in past tense and still portray it effectively.

You've set up a whole new mystery story for you Frost Lark world. You could definitely turn these snippets of news into a series of novels if you wanted to, you've set yourself up with all the plot outlines, characters, and necessary details. I'm looking forward to further entries, but please make it possible for readers to participate! That's what made the previous ones so much fun. :)

Thanks for the feedback, and glad you like when I bring readers into it! I don't know why that "Guess"was there... I don't remember writing it. I assume it was because I was writing and messaging someone at the same time and got the two tasks confused. That's why you don't text and drive!
