Boxes

E - Everyone

In Poems

Everyone’s heart is a box
Metal, cardboard, and wooden
Some are soft and some are hard
 And some have colorful designs
And some are filled with hope
While others are filled with greed

I could delve into the differences of these boxes
But that would take to long
Instead I’ll tell you what matters most
What matters the most is what the same is
For it is a trait in all of us

The sameness about these boxes
Is that each box has a lock
And where the key is you might ask?
It is simply in our hands

But something different about these keys though
Is that they only work on one lock
One key to open one box
And boxes hold the heart
Where love and hope are stored
Safely away from fear

But if one day you do stumble across a box
Not knowing what to do
Simply see if your key will fit
And if it does turn it slowly until that final click of success comes

And then see what’s inside
But remember what’s inside is not always good …
Because sometimes the box holds greed…

Wow. I absolutely love the idea of our hearts being like boxes. Its a very interesting theory indeed!
I, haha, found a single spelling error. I'm the spelling freak, so I believe that is why:
"But that would take to(o) long".
Also, this is a tip that many others have given me. I know it doesn't really make sense at first because that is just the style we develop. But, in time, it does begin to make a little bit of sense.
What I suggest is that you, even though you press enter and type a whole new sentence, you begin it with a lowercase letter (if its continuing). For example:
"The sameness about these boxes
(i)s that each box has a lock".
Anywho, that is just simply what I suggest. Don't forget that punctuation! :)
Other than that, wonderful, wonderful poem. Please keep writing, because you'll get even better! :)
Much love,

I love the whole concept of how you've managed to portray hearts as boxes.
"Everyone’s heart is a box
Metal, cardboard, and wooden
Some are soft and some are hard
And some have colorful designs
And some are filled with hope
While others are filled with greed"

Especially this stanza, as I've never looked at hearts in the way you've put them. The way it fits so well. Some poets come up with good ideas, however fail to make so much sense that it becomes almost real. For me, this poem has really changed my view on hearts. Because some hearts are hard and soft and only certain keys can unlock the heart. so keep up the good work.

Full marks for the concept. It actually depicts the sort of person you are, so yes, the concept is incredible.
Now, having said that, the main problem I feel lies with the pattern.
It is simple but too simple to be categorized as a poem really. The emotion that you want to convey is clear but if you remove the spaces between the stanzas and increase the length of your lines a little, it will be seen that it reduces to a mere article.

One needs to understand that a poem is different than a conventional article. It should be able to convey the emotion in a very subtle way but leave the impact much more than an article! So here, what lacks is the impact.

At times, it seems as if the stanzas are becoming repetitive, because the idea remains the same and only the language differs.

So, you just need to tame and correct that part since you really have that poetic niche in you. Utilize it to the fullest and you shall be an ace.

Good luck and good attempt.

Very cute poem! I like your idea behind it. You do a good job sticking to one theme as well. Now onto the suggestions:

In the first stanza I think you may use the word "some" too much :
"Some are soft and some are hard
And some have colorful designs
And some are filled with hope
While others are filled with greed"

You could change the secound and 3rd line to "There are boxes with colorful designs
and ones filled with hope" just changing the word 'some' in a few cases I think would add some nice variation.

2nd stanza :
"I could delve into the differences of these boxes
But that would take to long"
Nice use of the word 'delve', it adds alliteration. But you already Have described their differences of the boxes, so I think the line is more confusing, especially because you can't really get any deeper into the differences you already listed, the reader knows the difference between hope and greed so it's not like you 'delve' deeper into that. I think you could change it to "I could delve more into the differences of these boxes" or "There's more I could say on the differences of these boxes." Because I think that's closer to what you're meaning. And then the next line you should change 'to' into 'too'.

3rd stanza: Although I like words that are not normally used like "sameness" they can come off a bit stiff, or awkward. So you could think about replacing with a more common word like "likeness" which would mean the same.

4th stanza: "But something different about these keys though"
I'm not sure about this line, I would suggest changing it to "There's something different about these key's though."
The rest of that stanza I think is really good.

Last stanza, I would urge you not to use the 'ellipses' I guess it's a personal choice, but I think ellipses sort of take away from what you're saying, and especially in the context of the rest of your poem, what in the world would the ellipses even be leading the reader to think/understand?

Great job on your poem, I hope my review helped!

This poem was very nice. It is ultimately a very nice extended metaphor. Just a few lines i feel lack rhythm. For example. "And some have colorful designs" is very abrupt. You may want to rephrase it poetically. Also starting the sentence with 'and' then the next sentence with 'and' also is not a good thing. Simply remove and from either or. You should try to regulate the pattern of stanzas and give it intentional structure.. For example. 5 lines, 4 lines 5 lines 4 lines or 5 the whole way through. Good job and keep writing.

Spelling corrections:
In second stanza 'to' should read 'too'
Content:
I thought this was a very interesting poem. I liked the symbol of the box representing the heart and using the key to open it. I felt the last line could be improved. I also thought it was a bit unconventional of a structure as none of the stanzas we're the same length. I hope this was helpful. Write on!
