Diagnosis

E - Everyone

In poetry

Something is wrong you know it is,

you get the diagnosis "Borderline anti-social personality disorder, Psychopathic personality disorder, and narcissistic personality disorder."

One thing they all distinctly have in common "disregard for others feelings."

I don't see that,

you've helped me with so much.

I see how much you care for those you chose to get close to.

I see when you love you love hard,

yes you'll lie and manipulate sometimes.

You still care for those you love.

You are not your diagnosis.

It does not define you.

You are one of the best people I have ever met,

never forget that.

Maybe that's why they said "Borderline" because you have it but it's not quite full,

regardless you have it,

it's a part of you.

Yet does not define you.

You have your diagnosis.

Yet you are not it.

Hi @L0ca1Tes1a!

I always have a very soft corner for people who have mental health struggles, given that I have seen many such things very closely and have also been vocal about my own issues. Your work nicely captures the confrontation between clinical judgment and personal experiences.

You tried to beautifully portray your friend not through their experience, but by their presence- someone who helps, who loves fiercely, who may have flaws like dishonesty or manipulation, yet who deeply cares for those close to them. You don't deny their diagnosis, but you also don't deny the humanity in them.

The repetition of thought that you are not your diagnosis, is like both a comfort and a resistance- against stigma, against despair. A reminder to the person, as well as to the narrator themself that one's identity goes beyond just clinical charts.

Spoiler
Yet does not define you.

you are missing 'it' here.

Thank you for the review! Yes I was trying to portray my friend as who they are and not what they have. I wanted to keep in mind that while it is important to show people you are not what you are diagnosis you cannot deny they have it, it can make them feel worse. This is also kind of of a reminder for myself too. Glad you enjoyed.

"you are not your diagnosis" is so true an real. people often have a preconceived opinion on people who are diagnosed with mental illness but this confronts us of the truth that these are people who need love more than judgement. kudos to u!

Yesss, I really wish people didn't have preconceived opinions on those with certain diagnosis'.

heyyy !!
THATS A REALLY BEAUTIFUL POEM.
would love to know your inspiration/ source of this idea.
According to me words placement is so so good.

I see when you love you love hard,

yes you'll lie and manipulate sometimes.

You still care for those you love.

You are not your diagnosis.

i love this part especially !!
the contrast of one's behavior and character is so beautifully described.
All together i didnt find any "mistakes" so yeah...

KEEP Writing !!!

Thank you for the kind review! My inspiration for this is actually one of my friends. He is diagnosed with all of these yet he cares. So I wanted a little reminder for people that you are not your diagnosis.
