Handsoap

  1. A group of elderly McDonald’s employees eating lunch at the Habit.
  2. A group of young Habit employees eating lunch at McDonald’s.
  3. The young man who decides washing his hands is overrated.
  4. The old lady who eats the small fry he prepares.
  5. ...Why am I eating here?
  6. I wore a red shirt to Target and got asked where the electronics are.
  7. Everyone knows where the electronics are.
  8. The Walmart employee who told me that they don’t sell electronics.
  9. I wore a blue shirt to the Altadena Walmart and wished I hadn’t.
  10. Skip this number. Count backwards from 15 to 11, then read the real number ten before number sixteen.

15. England wore red, Germany wore purple, Italy wore green, France wore Blue, Africa was naked.

14. The colors of the rainbow set out towards the swap meat, searching for a pot of gold.

13. They slap away horse flies that buzz too loudly, backhands and front hands, backhands and front hands.

12. Rivers other than Jordan winding down, and down, and down.

11. Cocoa, the gold you can kill, running up, and up, and up.

10. Hands in baskets used to weave them.

16. Dez Bryant’s new gloves.

17. I wore a blue shirt to Best Buy, and nothing happened at all.

18. What’s in a handshake?

19. Black history month would be easier if we called it something else.

20. Stare at the elbow for a perfect high five.

This is fantastic. Really good. It's properly funny.
The weakest point in the whole is number 9, 'I wore a blue shirt to the Altadena Walmart and wished I hadn’t.' Too many shirts. There are already, and will later be, enough shirts. Also I don't get it, but that's probably not your fault. Although I suppose you need that for number 17 to work. But again, I think there are too many shirts.

'England wore red, Germany wore purple, Italy wore green, France wore Blue, Africa was naked.' This is a little bit out of place, but only because it isn't completely fantastic and funny. It doesn't completely suck.

'Black history month would be easier if we called it something else' is great. And being followed by the final line, which is killer. Perfect ending.
I give you a strong hilarious out of the nose giggle to pant wetting spectrum.
Thank you, more please

There are too many things with this. I don't even know what emotions I have while reading this. I love this work. I fell in love with it, and just mundane things that capture a soul underneath. There are always unanswered questions, and I love them all. I love the questions and the agitation behind the not-knowing. This is a wonderful list of things, this Handsoap; and I as I read it again, I want to shake your hand, but 'what's in a handshake?'

Look, a good poem is a poem that exists. Any poem you write is better than the poem you don't.
