Author's Note: Hey, YWS'ers! This is my very first attempt at publishing a free verse poem on this site. Any reviews and comments are greatly appreciated.
Dreams.
So tightly woven is the fabric of a Dream,
A Dream that grows old as it's owner grows bitter and harsh.
Dilapidated trees dance sadly in the evening wind,
They too held onto a Dream.
A Dream is a blanket stretched across the sky and into infinity.
It is alive as long as the black clouds of Discouragement are kept at bay.
We hold right to our dreams in times of distress, and they are always there.
Always There?
No truth is so cold as the truth that complicates a Dream.
Dreams are Hope, and Hope is a nothing but a Dream.
And so we cling to the Hopes that our Dreams will be realized,
To free us from the Darkness that consumes all Hope.
And still, we Hope that our Dreams can be realized,
When all Hope is Lost somewhere within the Blackened skies.

Great poem! Honestly, I really liked it. It portrayed a lot of emotion, both positive and negative, and really flows wonderfully across the page. Dreams are always a wonderful topic to write about, and you've hit the nail on the head. So nice work! I'm impressed with how well you've pulled this off. Sometimes with an idea as commonly used as this, the works can become cheesy or cliche, but you somehow manage to obtain originality. I like that a lot!
My favorite lines were, "A Dream is a blanket stretched across the sky and into infinity," and "A Dream that grows as old as its owner grows bitter and harsh." Both beautiful and true.
Great job! Keep writing!!!!
Hey! Great Poem There. Seems you have got talent. Dreams a great topic. A lot of things do come to mind while talking about dreams. Don't they? I really liked the lines

"A Dream that grows old as it's owner grows bitter and harsh.
Dilapidated trees dance sadly in the evening wind,"
Your each poem line is long . Why don't you shorten them so it looks more poetic type and not just sentences typed all way. In the sense I mean
"It is alive as long as the black clouds of Discouragement are kept at bay."
This line looks more of a sentence rather than a poetic line.
Although, on the whole this poem be great if you correct the few mistakes and re check it.
Keep Writing! :
Very nice poem indeed! I love the descriptions used, particularly the way you describe the trees;

'Dilapidated trees dance sadly in the evening wind,
They too held onto a dream'.
I often find free verse is just as tricky to write, if not more, than rhyming verse, as you kind of need to focus more on the individual words and meanings than with rhyming, and this poem has both good words and meanings. There are some slightly clichéd descriptions, such as the mentioning of 'darkness' consuming all hope and the 'Blackened skies', but in this case they help make the meaning clear and make the idea of a dream sound fragile. I also like the way you capitalized the first letters of words such as 'Dream' and 'Discouragement', it is an interesting way of making them stand out.
Well done and I hope to read more of your poems!
Okay, so I hope you take this constructively. These are just my observations and obviously subjective and all that and everything else.
First, your words flow quite well for the most part. They're fluid . . . like a dream I guess? I'm assuming you were working in that direction intentionally.
"Dilapidated trees dance sadly in the evening wind" -- The alliteration also contributed to the aforementioned assumption.
However, this being the case, or at least my assumption, there are some places that seemed a little clunky; which also could have been your intention (Damn poetry reviews, sorry)
"A Dream is a blanket stretched across the sky and into infinity" -- Not a big fan of this line (which counts for like pff). The "and" seems unnecessary especially as it just feels a little awkward as I read it. I always try reading through my stuff to see if the rhythm or the flow of words works to advance the writing. Smoothing may seem anal but the sound of a poem, how it feels as it's read or spoken does a lot to influence how it's received.
Now, while your wording flowed pretty smoothly for the most part, I had a really hard time with the flow of ideas.
Starting with "Dreams.", the first three lines fit together and then boom; dilapidated trees are dancing sadly when I thought we were talking about a dream. This is quite abrupt and off topic even when we read on to find that the trees held onto a dream. However, I kept on. I tried to view it at that point as a poem about the past tense of holding onto a dream; of having had a dream and then somehow losing it. I was ready for a poem about the losing of a dream as a dreamer grows bitter and harsh and then ....
A dream is a blanket in the sky and infinitely large. I don't understand the metaphor or why you used it except for it being used to introduce the black clouds of discouragement (I feel like a black cloud of discouragement. Again, sorry.) This section isn't following my expectations for a unified statement on dreams or the losing of dreams.
("Dreams are Hope, and Hope is a nothing but a Dream") -- I don't think you meant to put "is" after the second "Hope".
To me the other lines seem like word count boosters. Try to stay on a focused topic. I know you're talking about dreams but don't change direction. You're poem is the shell that has to circle the nut (you can use that saying anytime you want, about anything).
Anyways, you have a good grasp on wording. You can make it flow well. Just focus on keeping relevant.
Disclaimer [cause I feel kind of like an ass]: I'm by no means any kind of authority on poetry and expression of any kind is a very personal thing so your poem could be exactly what you want it to be. These were just some suggestions as reviewing seems to be the end all at this site.
Good luck and feel free to come and lambast any of my writings. There are definitely some that deserve it.
Hey there GreenLight24,
I'm Graham and I am going to do a quick review for you today!
First i would like to say this poem was very well done! It really embodies how hope and dreams are connected in a cycle that leads right from one to the other and never ends. Specifically I really liked that last few lines
"Dreams are Hope, and Hope is a nothing but a Dream.
And so we cling to the Hopes that our Dreams will be realized,
To free us from the Darkness that consumes all Hope.
And still, we Hope that our Dreams can be realized,
When all Hope is Lost somewhere within the Blackened skies."
I also really like how you made the conscious decision to capitalize some of the first letters of words like in "Dreams" "Hopes" and "Darkness" It really shows how you as the author view these ideas as characters that are interacting with each other, and adds some nice depth to the poem. I don't and can't really think of anything negative to say about this piece other than maybe trying to vary your punctuation a bit, but honestly that is just an ascetic thing, where conceptually your poem is perfect that way it is. Absolutely beautiful. As always, write on my friend, write on!
Cheers!
Graham
