Darkness

In Poetry

Darkness,
so cliché when hated,
when feared,
when thought of as visible absence,
when in reality everything is still there -
just hidden, taking a break from the scrutiny
of eyes ever judging.

Darkness,
when you can open your eyes and forget
that they’re not closed.
Swarm of spots
whose colors you're not sure even exist
and you're much less able to recognize them,
dancing,
flickering,
reminding you
that you're lucky
you’ve never seen
true black.

I really enjoyed the poem but it actually took me two looks to get it. Lol. What I liked about is how you express that darkness isn't something to really be scared of. It's actually something more beautiful. To be honest, I favor the light more than the darkness but there are some beautiful things such as fireflies flying around and the stars that we can only see at night. I also admire the line

when thought of as visible absence,
when in reality everything is still there -
just hidden, taking a break from the scrutiny
of eyes ever judging.

That's my most favorite line of all. I can't give you an explanation. It's just really good. Can't wait to read other poetry by you. Keep me updated please :D
