Circus Investor

The "grew" mistake is intentional. I made a mistake and didn't care to fix it since it kinda stuck. Kind of like my grammar mistake in "Circus Freak" when I said "what you did from me" instead of "what you did to me" again, it stuck. And I kinda liked it. So meh.

If you can’t have it, then no one will

I’m sorry that you hate what I’ve built

You came knocking, after the scenes

Asked to take this down, to build your dream

I said no, that this is all I have

This is my new home, I built with tears

You won't understand, living with me for years

Don't you know, I'll fight with all I have

I’ll reach for anything I can grab

~

You grabbed that gasoline and you tried to burn it down

But you didn't know I already burnt all my old clowns

(Circus Investor do you not know about the Jester?)

The gasoline can has long been empty and cold

And the memories are really starting to get old

(Circus Investor, did I not tell you about the Jester?)

But you never knew, never took the time to grew

I’m not interested, Circus Investor

Circus Investor, I’ll cut you off like the Jester

~

You raised me heartless, you raised me wide

As a child, there's nothing this world could hide

“You could be taken, murdered in cold blood”

But you never taught me, how to properly love

I built this circus, it's the only place I belong

You raised a twisted monster (just like you) and you knew it all along

I should thank you, I’m grateful for being so aware

But beyond that, Mom, I don't really care

~

You grabbed that gasoline and you tried to burn it down

But you didnt know I already burnt all my old clowns

(Circus Investor do you not know about the Jester?)

The gasoline can has long been empty and cold

And the memories are really starting to get old

(Circus Investor, did I not tell you about the Jester?)

But you never knew, never took the time to grew

I’m not interested, Circus Investor

Circus Investor, I’ll cut you off like the Jester

~

You threw the can away and grabbed me away

The trapeze dancers, the clowns, they stopped screaming my name

I’m gonna built and leave off where you left behind

All the dreams you lost, I promise I will find!

You might have abandoned hope, but you cant truly love

And that’s why neither can I, but I'm still young, and my dream is just above

If you can't have it, then neither can I?

I'm sorry that I don't want my dream to die

You might have stopped, you might have turned mean

But I think its because you no longer! Have! A! Dream!

I'm not you . . .

Circus Investor, I'll turn down your offer

(Circus Investor, I’ll cut you off like the Jester)

Circus Investor, I wont let you fester

(Circus Investor, I’ll cut you off like the Jester)

Circus Investor, wont let you pester

(Circus Investor, I'll cut you off like the Jester)

Circus Investor, I'll cut you off like the Jester

Hello there, Akira! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the wretched S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - This time, the narrator is addressing her mother, and warning her mother that she’s not afraid to stand up for herself, and that she’ll cut her off, just like she did with the jester many years ago…

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I think that you may have meant to say “can’t”, but that’s just one minor thing.

Chocolate Bar - I think that it was clever of you to describe the mother as the investor, as though she is planning for her daughter to be a certain way. Parent and child are connected through virtues and vices, and it all depends on how their lives played out on how they will be in life. Very haunting and descriptive!

Closing Graham Cracker - Another song to add to the circus collection. Another song of which the circus story delves deeper into the darkness, spinning on and on. I have enjoyed this read, and whenever you feel like posting another song, I will read it. ^v^

I wish you a lovely day/night! :>

Okay, to begin, WOW! I love this so much. The opening lines, "I’m sorry that you hate what I’ve built," stood out to me. It's like the speaker is saying, "You can't have it, because it's all I have," which is such a powerful statement. The second stanza, "You grabbed that gasoline and you tried to burn it down," is like a punch in the gut. It's intense, but it shows resilience. It's like saying, "You can't destroy me because I've already faced the fire and come out stronger." My only complaint is the repetition of "Circus Investor" feels a bit forced in some places. It's clear who the antagonist is, but the name itself doesn't add much to the poem. Maybe consider a more symbolic or metaphorical title for them that resonates more with their actions. Otherwise, this is beautifully written, and I look forward to reading more of your work!

thanks! if you like it and want a bit more context, try reading my first series. its labeled "showtime" without the number two!

here's the first song (am I forcing this?) you might understand the song better with a little bit of context.
Circus Freak

also, I believe the first part of the song explains how the Investor knocked and tried to take over to fill in their own dream. trying to invest in their own idea by tearing the circus down... just for context, yk.

and then it explains how the Investor grew mad and tried burning it away. then in the story they dragged the circus freak off. every song of mind kind of tells of a new story all on its own ^^

I only know that learning to believe in the power of my own words has been the most freeing experience of my life. It has brought me the most light. And isn't that what a poem is? A lantern glowing in the dark.
