Boys.

In Poetry.

Author's Note: Hello again, YWS'ers. Hope you're all having an awesome Halloween season! This is a poem that's inspired by the lgbtq community and their struggles.

Boys.

They're dudes, guys, men, males.

They go with girls.

They go with chicks, ladies, women, and females.

And then they all live happily l ever after.

But what if a boy's your best friend?

What if he makes you laugh? Or if he picks you up when you're sad?

What if he's funny? Or if he's got a great smile?

What if he's got the prettiest pair of green eyes you've ever seen?

What if...he's kinda cute?

And then you wonder: Could it really be?

Could it really be that this boy is the Adam to your...Adam?

And then this happens:

"Hey, man. How's it goin'?"

"Good. We won the game. Five to one."

"Wow. That's wonderful."

"Yeah, dude. What's up with you?"

"Nothin' much. How about we go see a movie Saturday?"

"Aw, sweet."

"Okay! Which one?"

"Hold your horses there, bro...who else is goin'"

"I thought it'd just be us this time."

"Alright. Tell ya what; get Anna and Laura to come. Then we're golden."

"Sure thing."

And then you remember how dumb it all is.

Boys.

They go with girls. Duh. That's how it goes.

But his face. Those emerald irises.

And his hands. Such a soft touch.

And his hair. Short, but it actually blows in the wind.

What to do?

Just forget about it.

Forget about him.

Forget about you.

Forget about the two of you.

It's gross.

And then you keep on anyways.

He does so much to you and doesn't even know.

And it makes you want him more.

And then you invite Anna and Laura;

Because you two are just friends; and you're

Boys.

Hey GreenLight24, LH here

The dialogue that is going in there is really interesting. Made me feel like I am there during the conversation. Overall it is a wonderful piece of work to me. Well at least I don't see much to correct or quote cause of the other reviews.

This is certainly a great poem so keep up the good work :) Keep Writing

Just going to comment, haha. :D

I can totally understand you on this...in fact I'm going through something like this right now. The feeling you get when the other person has no idea you think about him so much and you try to suppress yourself so much for him cause you know you'll never be... :,)

I wish you all the best with your feelings! Hang in there! Cause it'll probably get easier along the way. ;)

Wow. It's a great poem, especially when you have the whole dialogue thing going. But I'm confused. I thought it was written from the point-of-view of a guy, but at the end, i'm confused. Is it a guy or a girl telling the story? Their both guys, right?
I don't have a problem with that, it's just confusing.

Like I said before, It's really cool how you had the whole dialogue thing going. It's creative and I liked it!

Happy Review Day!

It's a guy telling the story. :) thanks for the comment!

Hi GL Dream here with review on your poem. First of all, Happy Review Day!
This is so much beautiful! I could feel its strength and I'm overwhelmed. I like the imagery and few figurative elements in the poem. Metaphor and simile really have an impact on poem. It was succeed.
Irony at the beginning of the poem seem to make sense. It is a good choice to portray a variety of rank / status / behavior of some men and women.

Boys.
They're dudes, guys, men, males.
They go with girls.
They go with chicks, ladies, women, and females.

Anyway, there are parts that looks awkward here; conversation and narrative element that suddenly appeared in the middle of the poem? It's like a poem that 'mix'. Some may be effective, but I prefer if you write such as the beginning of poem, without the element of conversation and the names of the characters suddenly exist.

Overall, as I said you have a good poem here. Only slightly improve with diction and it certainly appears to be a great poem.
Keep it up! Kudos, cheers.

I don't think it took guts to post this whoever judges you on this should be a shamed of themselves. You like what you like and that's that. you're born that way you cannot help it. Though i can see there being an array of problems in some types of society clicks because of this especially if the other will never feel the same. at first i thought it was about the dreaded "friendzone" haha. but i liked the way this poem had a light twist to the end. This was an awesome piece aside from the mistakes the other members have pointed out . Keep writing :)

Greetings, GreenLight! :)

And then they all live happily l ever after.

Scratch that bolded word. Must have been a typo.

And then you invite Anna and Laura;

Because you two are just friends; and you're

Boys.

Those semicolons should be commas.

Okay, so! Overall, this was a wonderful piece. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you can fix whatever confused emotions you are having with your sexuality.

While I do think this would work better as an Other (because it doesn't really seem like poetry to me, but that's just my opinion), I still enjoyed it very much. I felt that you portrayed your emotions very nicely through the piece; well enough to where I could relate, so kudos on that! I particularly liked you using Laura and Anna as examples of why he (possibly!) wouldn't like you that way. :)

And as the strong LGBTQ supporter that I am, I just want to wish you luck with figuring out who you are and the strength to get you through whatever may come!

~Iggy

Thanks for the review and all the well wishes. I really appreciate it. :) I'm just takin it day by day. I realize that no matter how my sexuality may change I'm still me and I still have to love myself. I guess that's what's most important after all.

Hey GreenLight24,

That was amazing! Like emjayc said, it takes a lot of guts to say that! And I love it! I love how you've captured your feelings, and it is so heartfelt and beautiful!! And I know how you feel, when you like someone like that, but you just don't know what to perceive of these feelings (though I will admit it was a different scenario for me because he was my friend but he hates me now).

Anyway, there was a little mistake here: "happily l ever after."
I don't think the "I" is meant to be there.
"Short, but it actually blows in the wind" could be, "Short, though it still blows in the wind", or something along those lines.
"And then you keep on anyways." Could be, "Yet you keep on anyway."
These are just my suggestions, but I do think the way it's written is just ... I don't know what else to say now, other than to just repeat myself and say it's amazing and beautiful and very heartfelt.

Well, I love it. Keep up the great work. And just consider what I've suggested, not saying you HAVE to change it, cos I guess that's what makes it so great!

Sage ;)

Thanks I'm really glad you liked it! :D thanks for the review and for all of the nice things you had to say. ;)

Wow, that was a really heartfelt poem and I bet it took some guts to post it. Poetry is a really great way to vent your feelings and I'm glad you took the time to write your thoughts down. Seems you're very conflicted and I'm sorry. I hope everything works out for you.
I just can't even begin to review your poem it just affected me so much. Thank you for writing this.

Thanks for this comment. That's one thing I really love about poetry and writing in general. It really is a great outlet for emotions. :)

If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.
