Spoken Word on YWS

It's been a recent obsession of mine, in my never-ending search for funky flow, to read my poetry aloud both during the writing process and post-production, which most of the time is editing. This means that anything I post to YWS gets read aloud dozens of times, and after a while I developed a love for my work in my own voice. And I thought this should be a thing on YWS.

My goal here is for folks to share their work read aloud. It doesn't have to be poetry! I want you to fall in love with whatever you write, and if speaking it aloud and sharing it here makes you love it, then I want you to record yourself.

On a major plus, your friends get to hear your work read by the person who knows its flow the best. So let me go first - hoping that others will come along eventually.

I remembered my phone has a nifty voice recorder.

Here is a segment from one of my works-in-progress, Silk. I like this segment quite a bit and I thought it might sound nice aloud. To give context, Silk is a warped tale of Beauty and the Beast. Pip's family (his father, his two sisters and him) have fallen on hard times and been forced to move from their city home to a small village. Pip has just met a girl he thinks he likes. His sisters don't agree.

And some context on me - yeah, I know my accent doesn't make sense. xD

OKAY AFTER TWENTY ATTEMPTS - teach me how to embed and I shall. For now. You get a link.

EDIT - a WORKING link.

@StellaThomas --> I want you to read all of my fiction ever. That perfect moment you captured when you said, "Pip fell in love."

I love it. <3

ohhh, helpful for embedding:

That should be able to embed media. I'm not sure about voice recordings.

@pretzelsing - omg I love how you work the rhythm into the beginning of that poem and then it kind of falls away in the middle bit about being forced to sing and then comes back! So clever.

And @Zolen - I loved the piece, so lyrical and dream-like. But also, you have an amazing accent.

I want to do this, but apparently my microphone is more sensitive than my own ears (not surprising, since I'm partially deaf) and picks up background noises I didn't know existed. -_-

My first attempt at Spoken Word during last year's NaPo. The poem was later revised into you will not win tonight

I might as well try reading this sonnet out loud so we can appreciate my efforts in iambic pentamenter. http://vocaroo.com/i/s0zHgAMtMHgS

EDIT: Tried to use the media tags but apparently it doesn't like Vocaroo. Changed them to links.
