COOP zine (edited by alliyah & Rook) still has ongoing calls for poetry and art related to chickens! That's right! You can get your wonderful chicken poetry published! You can check out the instructions and requirements here: https://coopzine.wordpress.com/

Also we are getting ready to publish a special edition that instead of being about chickens is entitled "Duck, Duck, Goose" so ... you guessed it! We are looking for duck and goose themed poetry and art! So if you have any of that (maybe from the search for the Golden Goose) check out our submission info over on our site.

If you have any questions or concerns contact myself or @Rook! We'd love to have more YWS authors and artists involved with our next issue~

  • Endlessly grateful for YWS forever and always. I'm teaching English 101 at a university, and boy does it feel like many of my students don't know how to do a lot of the basic stuff I learned how to do on YWS (and in high school, to be fair). Reading, analyzing, synthesizing, critiquing, and of course, writing...
Not to mention computer skills? Learning that there are resources outside where you might normally look for them? This place is great.

  • Idea for a novel: a college student with an interest in music, poetry, and the radio starts a pirate radio broadcast. Plot points would involve them getting busted and the thrilling chase/escape (maybe live on air?), and a crush they'd kinda write poetry to and read it over the broadcast assuming that their crush wouldn't be listening, also dedicate songs to them. And of course at some point the crush would happen to be listening or somehow find out.
Mostly I just wanna read this story, but as is the case with other such things, you gotta do it yourself

  • I just wanted to do a little life update! I started my MFA in poetry last month and it has been so fun. The job that they're having me do to pay for it is teaching English 101, which has been interesting as well, though a little exhausting lol
I love going to my graduate classes though and just being absolutely immersed in poetry. Like... I'm having so much fun there. I love the workshops. It's awesome to have the poetry of my peers in front of me and engage them in conversations about form and craft and their amazing ideas and words, and to have that given to me in turn.
It's kind of incredible how I've come this far? Like I was really serious about poetry when I joined this site, but I don't think I'd have guessed I'd be getting a master's degree about it.
Oh, and irt my last post, I did eventually get an apartment, and it's been a good one so far!

  • alliyah wrote:Poetry is so cool! :) @Rook and I just put some time in working on our latest COOP edition (zine 6 will be out this September!!) and it is kind of mind-boggling to me that we get submissions from people from so many different ages and places and experience-levels, authors of books, teachers, professors, chicken-owners, tumblr-artists, painters, photographers, bloggers, etc. I guess our zine even came up at a random Literary Workshop Panel??? neat right? Poetry is just so cool in how it connects and multiplies and takes on its own life! I love it. At this point I think COOP has had over 100 submissions altogether since we launched, that's so much chicken art and chicken poetry.

I'm really looking forward to this next edition as you can tell ~ will update here when it's released and available! In the mean-time, did you know we are actually doing a special COOP edition open to duck and geese themed art and poetry?! So if you happen to have any of that around and would like to submit it you can find out how here (if you prefer to not use the google form for security reasons, we can also accept submissions via YWS PM for YWSers, you just have to read and accept the submission guidelines first. :)

Thanks for reading! Keep writing! :)

  • guess who's quitting their job, moving towns, starting a new job, and starting grad school in the next few weeks? Why yes, it's the same person whose car just broke down and was just informed they probably have hashimoto's disease and need to start taking medication!
I spent today figuring out car insurance stuff for my new car (that we had to buy in 3 days since I was on vacation out of town) and learning about hypothyroidism.
It's already been an eventful month, and it's only going to get more eventful.

I don't have an apartment locked down yet which is the most stressful part.

Spearmint yikes :( <3333333 hope the move and everything go well, Rook <3<3<3

Que <33 Wishing you the best of luck with everything -- finding an apartment stinks on top of everything else. Let me know if there's anything I can help with.

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
