Candy Lies

In Flashes of Inspiration :)

I carefully unwrap my love hearts,
till on the table they are laid.
Then I slowly read each cliché:

“HELLO”, “SMILE”, “BE MINE”,
my hand slams down to grind
all three into molecules of dust.

“ALL YOURS”, “FOREVER”, “TRUST”,
I laugh loud and bitterly,
throwing them away from me.

“KISS”, “I WANT YOU”, “I SPY”,
I sweep from the table candy lies,
and pray the last heart is true,

“I LOVE YOU”

I bite it to make two jagged parts
and look down at my broken heart.
