Someone Else Who Can Fly

I had another spate with him today,
and I worry in our breaking hearts;
when asked if he could attract more flies
by honey or vinegar, he was repulsed
when I said I like the smell of the latter.

Here I am, embellished in porcelain,
emphasizing bulging neck veins and a mouth
cascading forth hammers, a mind pulsating
in blue notes over the idea that, maybe,
if I shout a sailor's shout long enough,
I might drown out his growing pleas
that I open my closet to the world
and give him free reign over my skeletons.

Who am I to be irrational, I wonder at times,
when, in sleepless nights, he beside me
where he hovers below a lamp light,
how he passes out his soul as a sandwich
what made moldy and with maggots, asking
why I can match him in body, but not in spirit.

These are my bones, I can only still cry,
and they will not be cast aside,
baked black and gray in a furnace;
as I am a man of dissolution,
and must have fears and secrets
to chew and stick on a gum sculpture
onto the lamp for a shade from reality
and the lack of its weight on my shoulders.

Hey, TheSilverFox! Scythe here to do a quick review :)

This was beautiful! I have a few concerns with the first stanza though.

I had another spate with him today,
and I worry in our breaking hearts;
when asked if he could attract more flies
by honey or vinegar, he was repulsed
when I said I like the smell of the latter.

In the first line, you write: "I had another spate with him today", I believe the line refers to an argument between the two people in the poem, however "spate" is not the word you should have used.

From a quick search, the definition of the word states that it is a large number of similar things coming in quick succession, so whilst it may have an occurrence within the poem, it doesn't make sense within that line. I think the word you were looking for is spat, which is a small argument. (Like the phrase: Lover's spat)

There were some good aspects about the first stanza though! I loved this part: "I said I like the smell of the latter." Vinegar is bitter and that only proves to show the personality of the character. Great job!

I hope to read more of your work, this was amazing!

Keep Writing :)

ummmmm.... whoaaaaa. Dude, like really, this blew my mind. Beautifully done, expertly chosen words. This is a story in in poem form and I love poetry like that. The main character obviously has some secret hiding and either his/her lover is trying to break down their walls or is the actual reason for the "skeletons in the closet". I felt myself even questioning in my own mind should the main character give up the secrets from the past. That was my favorite part of all. The words hit so deep but they're so simple. It's amazing.
