Wavelength Heartbeats

In Poetry A.D.

I know his favorite band, and his favorite band’s
least-favorite song, and I know that
he likes to lie awake at night and tell himself
that he can feel the world turning
beneath his back.

I know his qualms with hismother and
desire to be like his father, and I know
that he’s quiet but will claim his own face
out of fear of conformity. I know he used to
love me. I know I used to love him too.

But I don’t know if he knows me so well,
whether or not he knows  that I kick stones
when I walk down a street and wonder
if they feel it, and that I creep outside at night
and wonder if I’ll get sucked up
into the stratosphere. I even stand on my toes.

And whisper to the sky. And I wonder if you
ever hear those words. I know you, but do you
know me, or am I just a stranger who
happened to hear your heart beat?

Woohoo! Time for another review. Once again, I'm going to go through and critique each stanza. Then I'll share my overall feelings about the poem. Let's get started.

Stanza One

I've done that before, and I've always wondered if other people do that. So far we're off to a good start.

Stanza Two

There's a typo in the first line, no biggy. It starts getting confusing towards the end. It sounds like you have a good idea, but it just needs to be written more clearly. Try to avoid expressing ideas in too abstract a manner in a poem like this one, or you'll just confuse the reader.

Stanza Three

I like where this stanza takes the poem. If this poem were a story, we would've just been introduced to the conflict. She's wondering if this guy can understand her weirdness. That's a feeling a lot of people can relate too. Nice!

Stanza Four

You ended this poem very nicely! You always end with a bang, which is a great skill to have as a poet. My only complaint is starting this stanza with 'and'. It threw me for a loop, and I didn't catch on until I went back and read the last stanza. That's something you want to avoid as much as possible. Replacing that 'and' somehow, and still letting the reader know this stanza is 'continued' from the last, and this stanza will be perfect.

Nicely done Story! I'm glad I got you for Secret Santa. You have some mad poetry skills. Keep up the great work!

I truly enjoyed it. I can say from experiance that you captured this feeliing perfectly. Symbolism was nicely used, and the flow of the wrods was perfect. Just one thing about hismother, should have been his mother. But that was the only mistake I saw. I loved the way you wrote it, the format. Please write more, I would love to read whatever you write. 4 1/2 stars.

I'm not a poet, so don't quote me on this, but I thought the poem was lovely.
Except for a few bumps, I think it flowed nicely and sounded good.

Just a couple comments though,
first;

Spoiler
I know his qualms with hismother

I guess that was supposed to be 'his_mother'.

and second;
Spoiler
I know
that he’s quiet but will claim his own face
out of fear of conformity

I just don't understand this line.
Maybe it's because I don't speak the poetic language like you, but it just confused me.

Anyway, great writing! Keep up the good work!
