All Roses Have Thorns

People are scared to pick roses.

Why?

Because of their thorns.

Some people pick them

Without realizing there will be pain

Because they are amazed at the beauty.

The vibrant colors,

Soft petals

And the perfection they symbolize.

White roses symbolize purity.

Pink roses convey gracefulness.

And the one know to all,

Red shows off romance.

Yet all these colors and all these meanings,

All roses have thorns.

But sometimes you have to take the pain

To enjoy the beauty.

This was meaningful and pretty, and explained the different colors without being dry or dull. Two nitpicks:
"And the one know to all,"
I think it should be "known".

Lines 14 and 15--I think the word 'despite' should be between 'yet' and 'all'. That would make it flow a lot better.

Good work! I look forward to more of your writing.

Hi Deeproses! It's PenPacifist here again, I'll be reviewing your poem.

I love roses. I think they're such a pretty flower, and they are such a nice idea to write about. You certainly paid a lovely tribute to the flower with this poem!! I loved when you described the roses with the individual colors of pink, white, and red.

I was a bit surprised with the turn your poem seemed to take. Reading the beginning of your poem, I assumed your poem would go on the lines of everything beautiful has the capability to hurt you. This was an interesting twist, though. What I gathered from your poem was that everything painful was has the potential to be beautiful. Both extremely beautiful topics; especially to write about.

This was great.

Hi deeproses! Mage here to review your work! So let's get to it, shall we? :D

I loved this poem! It flowed together so nicely, and the specific problems I would bring up have already been mentioned by the reviewer before me. The poem exhibits great poetry and beautiful word choice; I loved reading every part of it.

My favorite thing about this poem, however, is the message the reader is meant to take away. Usually works about how roses are beautiful yet have thorns are about heartbreak or something similar. You chose a unique standpoint for this poem, which I find to be tje best part about this.

Keep up the great work - which I doubt you'll have trouble with - and good luck on your writing endeavors. Have a great day/night! :D

Thanks a bunch on the review, Mage! Truly glad you enjoyed it

You're welcome! :D

Hey I'm here for my first review as marmalade! (I used to be AliceAfternoon)

Anyway onto this poem! Firstly, the grammar:

People are scared to pick roses.
Why?
Because of their thorns.
some people pick them
without realizing there will be pain
because they are amazed at the beauty.
the vibrant colors,
soft petals
and the perfection they symbolize.
White roses symbolize purity.
Pink roses convey gracefulness.
And the one known to all,
red shows off romance.
Yet all these colors and all these meanings,
all roses have thorns.
But sometimes you have to take the pain
to enjoy the beauty.

I noticed you often broke the line where you would break when reading the poem. Unless this is spoken word poetry you don't need to break up the lines so often. For example, I recommend adding the third line to the second line or instead adding the second line to the first line. I personally think it makes the poem look better and just feel better (when reading it) when it's written this way.

I really liked this poem and was surprised that it was written by, as you say you are, a new poet. I'm not an expert in poetry, I've only written it for about 9 months but I think you've definitely got a good start!

marmalade

Thanks! I'm definitely trying to figure out when it is good or appropriate to break the line or not :) thx for the review, glad you liked it <3

King here

Hello there and welcome to YWS, I am glad to see so many new people joining the site to share their works with us! I would love to see your future works because poetries like this are very emotional and close to my heart. They are sad but have some kind of a lesson or an interesting story behind all the words. Sad but still beautiful we could call it?

The thing I did not like is that you use punctuation and all perfectly but still capitalizate every single line, I know it could be called a style to write poetry, and maybe this is my own opinion.

I would accept the capitalization if you did not use commas and fullstops like in proper sentence. I like everything else, showing everything that is pretty also can cause us pain because we can not everything we want if we do not give something equal back. We can not love without getting hurted at least once. This is why I love this work and hope to see you improve!

Thank you a bunch for your opinion! I am new to poetry so i'm still trying to find out different ways to write it. I'll definitely try it out in my future poetry works :)

I really enjoyed your poem. It was short and sweet and was easy to read. I loved how you included the symbolic meaning of the roses. It was very informative as well. I feel as if this poem had a deeper meaning and message that can pertain to people as well. Keep up the good work. I will definitely check out more of you work. Happy writing!!!

This was beautiful and creative, but it felt like prose with line breaks and not a poem. It reminds me of some of Kafka's early stuff somehow, stylistically I guess, I don't know.

Thanks for your imput. I'm not very experienced in poetry and while i was writing this i didn't know how to categorize it haha

input not imput haha
