Do you remember what it was like to be thirteen?
Too old to vibe with younger ones but too young to be seen
All emotions are going crazy and haywire
But it's not too far when we feel we'll expire
~~~
You're in your own land, world, universe
But to others it extends the width of a purse
No one can come in because they wouldn't understand
But nothing goes your way it seems, not even something planned
~~~
Anything you did was never good enough
But having friends sure helps a bluff
Anything you do is to get some sort of recognition
But all you want is for someone to listen
~~~
Everything is changing, especially yourself
And it would be awkward to ask for some help
People coming and going is the worst part of all
We're troubled souls and just need a friendly call
~~~

You've perfectly expressed feelings I've felt for years. Wanting to feel good enough, but at the same time knowing that you never will. Wanting to express how you feel, but at the same time being too scared to open up. Constantly chasing after happiness that you know you'll never catch but chasing after it anyways to at least say you tried. The nerves I get every morning having to go school, wondering if today is the day I'll do badly on a test, if today is the day my grades drop. It's rare to find people who you think truly understand. From what you've written, I believe you are one of the few who I feel understand.
Hi Author! I'm writing this review because our teacher said to look for works on this website and give it a review and your work caught my attention.
The first stanza was true to life. I remember during my teenage years, especially when I was 13, my emotions would be different every day. I don't know what's the cause but Puberty may be the cause of it. The last line which is "But it's not too far when we feel we'll expire" kind of accurate in my perspective. Most teenagers these days feel depressed and anxious all the time.
AS for the second and third stanza, there were no problems at all, it was great and nostalgic since I experienced it. Yes having friends at that age was very different from now, it was so easy to make friends when I was 13 but now, I only have like 2 to 5 friends.
Change is unpredictable, you'll realize it when people notice it first. It is okay to change but do not ever change the way you socialize and talk to elders.
Many Teenagers, especially the ones who were born from 2003 onwards will relate to this poem. I hope you make more and I am looking forward to reading your other works! Thank You and Have a Great Day
Hi,
Sunlight Warrior here with a review! This is an incredible poem, so you should truly be proud of it! Your work has perfectly captured the complications of being thirteen years old and how we see ourselves as a grown-up, but the world around us still sees us as too young - for independence and the emergence of our full identity. I love the themes you've written - identity, acceptance and confusion, feelings that all teenagers can relate to. Growing up is an incredibly challenging time with our minds and bodies constantly changing, so I feel as though that a lot of teenagers reading this poem will be able to connect. Well done and keep writing!
Hi! I loved this poem. Though I'm not yet 13, I can relate to it. It's like you can only hang out with people your age, and that's awkward in itself. I like the way you express your thoughts on the topic. I especially asked the line ;
You're in your own land, world, universe
But to others it extends the width of a purse
The second line actually seems a teeny bit clumsy, but it perfectly describes the age.
I didn't exactly get the line 'But it's not too far when we feel we'll expire'
You might think of reframing it.
Anyway, this poem is great, keep writing!
Hey, Pineapple here for a little review!
I absolutely loved this poem. The way you painted a clear picture of what it is like to be 13. Being 13 is definitely an awkward stage. I, myself, am 13 so I can relate to it.
My favorite line was "Anything you do it to get some sort of recognition/But all you want it for someone to listen". That's so true and relatable to a lot of people.
I don't have many critiques, I thought it was very well written. Just one grammar-related note, though. In the last stanza, "Everything is changing especially yourself" I think you should add a comma between "changing" and "yourself".
Other than that, great job! I hope you keep writing.
Signed,
Pineapple
