Scars

Do you know what it feels like to be trapped in your body?
How dark it is inside;
And you bleed just to be alive.
They look at my scars and make faces
This is what they like to call "teenage phases".
But I know this is not,
And they know you well to hit you right on the spot.

Where it hurts the most;
I feel like a host
Possessing a body that is not mine.
No, I am not fine.

Do you know what it feels like to see yourself suffocating?
How hard it is to breathe;
All I want to be is freed.
I cry myself to sleep
Just to wake up and cut myself deep.
So you can stare all day at my scars,
But I am proud I could make it so far.

To give up right now
Will be an insult to myself,
I will rise and emerge
So you can go to hell.

Hi there!

I liked this poem for a couple of reasons. Number 1 is that I liked how it how a sort of bitter sarcastic but almost rebellious hint to it, telling people how cutters and people with depression really feel.

They look at my scars and make faces
This is what they like to call "teenage phases".

These two lines I absolutely loved. I can understand too well how it feels. A lot of my family and friends don't really get through what I'm going through at the moment and just call it a 'goth phase' but they don't get what I'm feeling at all. It sort of made me picture a snobby high class man noticing a girl with scars on her wrists and thinking that she's just doing it for attention.

Overall I really liked this poem and the flow and meaning. Keep up the good work,

LGF

I love the Poem, I feel as though I can relate to it. It shows what cutters feel, why they cut. Its good to know that people actually understand, the way you worded the poem, its amazing, the emotion, the mood. The ending stanza is my favorite section of the poem. Because it shows that even cutters can arise, they can show all those who brought them down that they aren't afraid. Being a past self to this, it really hits me.
Your a great writer, would love to read more of your work, nice piece. I love how you show the mood in this piece, keep it up :)

Hello runawaylove, Subtle here for a review. :)

This is a really lovely poem, it really is. It speaks out so truthfully about cutting, the realistic and the rawness in this stunned me. Of how prejudiced most people are when they view cutters, and then at the last stanza. You give the readers a sense of hope, that you will rise from the ashes and be triumph. I love the overall idea in this poem, is a different way to express how you feel.

I really love these two lines,

They look at my scars and make faces
This is what they like to call "teenage phases".

That's really great, because it has that trace of sarcasm and bitterness in it but at the same time, not over the top.

I feel like host
This doesn't quite make sense, I think you meant 'a host'. Maybe you typed too quick and forgot a word?

All I want to be is freed.
Present, past switch there. So maybe you should rephrase it into, 'All I want to be, is just to be free.'

I love the ending, it ended on such a strong note. Great poem! Keep on writing and stay awesome! :D

Yeah I did miss the "a" before the word "host". Thanks for this wonderful review. I just came out of a writer's block and this means a lot to me. :)
