In Poetry

This post is more of a question than a poem. Sorry if I posted it in the wrong spot. I was digging through my old notebooks and I found one that was totally empty, nothing on the cover or anything, except for one poem. It didn't have a title or a date and I don't remember writing it, but it was clearly my handwriting from about two years ago. I was hoping you someone could help me dissect it and figure out what I meant by it, because I sure can't.

Driven by insanity,
Taken under its wing
Trusting instinct and insanity
Learning to believe
Driven by insanity.

Worlds collide
People fade away
Leaving colors and shapes
With no meaning
Except a testament
To dreams.

I don't know what I meant by it. Do you?

it sort of reminded me of life
how one can go insane
and die
to leave the deceased with eternal dreams of their own fantasys
its unorganized but shows emphasis to something in an uncertain way
very good

Personally I think it is about just having to be taken with the flow of the world and you maybe felt at the time the whole world was just controlling you. You didn't really feel as if you're life had true meaning and you were just randomly being dragged through life.

I hope I helped (:

I think it was a great poem anyway XD I'd love to see some more of your poetry!

Ugh, I'm HORRIBLE at interpreting poetry. I used to have to show my poems to friends and ask them what they meant. I have absolutely no clue what this is supposed to be about, but I like the sound of it...
sorry for being no help to you whatsoever

I'm not sure that repeating 'insanity' in the first stanza helps as much as detracts you from making a point. It sounded like a (mediocre) contemporary heavy metal song.

I'm sure you just had a pre-teen 'moment' and just thought of some catchy lines that would fit how you were feeling at the time.

This poem reminded me that we are all here temporarily, and sometimes that can be hard to deal with. But that's just what it reminded me of. It is so true that there are many different ways to interpret a poem, and none of them are wrong!

I like this a lot! The theme of insanity is one I like, and this went very well, as far as I can judge. On the other hand, you shouldn't take anything I say concerning poetry seriously, as I write poetry worse than a Vogon, and crit it worse. Still, I liked the repetition of "insanity" in the first stanza.

The last stanza made me think of growing up and how things change over time. The first stanza didn't really support that, though. I liked the last stanza. The first stanza said "insanity" too much.

If you want to expand on this further, I suggest taking a theme that YOU find in the poem and thinking about other ways to expand on what you have in the poem. Chances are you've learned a lot about poetry and life in general in the last two years. Put it to good use, if you want. Or you can just leave it where it is.

Keep in mind, though: There are many ways to interpret a piece of writing. Us readers can offer our perspectives, but the real meaning you wish to convey is up to you.

This could be a good start to something great! Keep writing!

I don't know what you mean (falling asleep, maybe? You mentioned dreams.) But I like it

Be steadfast as a tower that doth not bend its stately summit to the tempest’s shock.
— Dante Alighieri
