The Last Hope a Rose

In poetry

A single rose blooms

Stretching out of the rubble of my broken heart

Reaching for sunlight from a place so dark

Showing rebirth for the lost

Wanting to prove there can be life in the shadows

Existing where you’d least expect it

Convincing its surroundings

That there is hope at last

It struggles for life

Trying to go on

Never going to give up

Without water and without any support

Having no strength to go on

It slowly dies

And the last hope around

Is lost

This poem is beautifully written.
The structure is fantastic, and I love that there are a number of lines that rhyme.
Some of the imagery used is very striking, such as:

"Stretching out of the rubble of my broken heart"

and

"Wanting to prove there can be life in the shadows"

The sense of hope and the chance of life created at the start of the piece is lovely. It mirrors hiw society had the chance to bloom into something beautiful.

"It struggles for life"

This line also echoes society, and how people try to make it work but the structure is already collapsing, the rose beginning to die.

"Is lost"

These two words to round off the poem are very effective, and somewhat haunting. It's liek a foreshadowing of what will happen to society without any support.

Overall, I found this poem both truthful and beautiful. It was very enjoyable to read, and the metaphorical use of the rose as society was very effective. I have no suggestions for improvement. Just keep up the great work!

thank you so much for the review, I am so glad that I can see someone understanding this piece so well!!!!

Wow! I really like the concept of this poem, I'm so happy that you thought of it. I also like the formatting, which actually reminds me of a poem itself.
Just a couple things: One, did you mean for the title to be "The Last Hope a Rose" or did you want it to be "The Last Hope, A Rose" or "The Last Hope of a Rose"? It doesn't make much sense the way it is now, so I wanted to double check.
Though a lot of the imagery here is good, a lot of the phrasing makes it hard to understand. I usually advise people to be loose about punctuation in their poems, but I think that using punctuation would actually help improve this one. I think the transitions would be a lot clearer if you did add a couple periods and commas.
Lastly, I feel like the transition from "Trying to go on/Never/going to give up/Without water and without any support" and "Having no strength to go on/It slowly dies" is a pretty weak transition. I would suggest adding a bit more in between those lines, so that the transition seems more gradual, as the death of the rose would be.
All in all though, great concept and interesting poem! Keep up the good work, and thanks for writing!

i actually meant it to have a double meaning, as in "the last hope arose" and "the last hope, a rose"

Ah, that makes a lot of sense! Great reasoning.

Hello, Rhia here to review!

First off, I want to mention how rare it is for contemporary poets to write center-formatted poems lately, mostly because of the void of white space and the aesthetic look. However, it is good to be adventurous, and your poem has an interesting shape that draws the reader on, so it works alright for you. As far as format, the only other thing I'd mention is that you might want to put in some breaks in here. It's one continuous thing, which sort of drowns out the conflicting feelings. It would have a much greater dramatic aspect if separated into a stanza of hopeful, a stanza of the struggle and dying. Just a suggestion.

I really like this, but you might want to try expanding, and building up your images here. Do a little bit more showing and less telling. Even simply by improving the vocabulary a bit, little things like that would help.

I liked it overall, and it was really nice to read. Keep it up, keep writing.

I have this poem written with a rose I drew hanging on the wall, I guess I didn't even think about changing it on this. thank you for the review :) I will consider stanzas in the future. as to the vocabulary, I wrote this around 5am and my vocabulary had already gone to bed. haha

Know how that is :D
